STUDENT COUNCIL

To Students and Friends of Southwestern College:

The Student Government of Southwestern performs many

duties and activities, some necessary, others not so impor

tant, yet still as leaders we are driven by an ultimate goal

which is beyond the duty of the moment--truth that cannot

be separated from God. This must be our challenge.

Sincerely,

Carl Martin Student Council President

Those who have not met him personally have heard stories about his flashing wit from those who have had that privilege. A longtime and highly effective teacher of languages and literature, he was presented with an honorary degree of Doctor of Literature in 1955. Miss Grace Russell Raymond earned her Ph. 8. from Southwestern in 1897. SInce then, she hasstudied art in Washington D. C. , New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Rome and Paris. A woman of great vivacfty and intellect-os well as talent--her work has been recognized nationall y. She received an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts in 1938.
