e THE GREAT BRITISH CARE AWARDS

“We meet so many amazing people who genuinely care and make a difference to peoples’ lives so, with the help of Care Talk Magazine, we shout as loud as we can to make sure people know that for every bad story they read, there are thousands more good ones. These awards demonstrate the excellent care provision that takes place thanks to hard working, dedicated people to ensure quality care in all our communities”. professor martin green obe CHIEF EXECUTIVE, CARE

“Being part of these awards is a huge privilege and pleasure. In amidst the negative press and focus on adult social care it is important to remember the hundreds of thousands of staff who give their all to ensure that those needing care and support receive it in a dignified, respectful and person centred fashion. Amongst the winners tonight we have some real shining stars who we rightly recognise both for their personal contribution, and for the positive light they create alongside the rest of the dedicated and professional workforce.” VIC RAYNER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, NATIONAL CARE FORUM

“Social care work is one of the most difficult, and at the same time, on eof the most spiritually rewarding careers. People whio work in social care make a huge difference to the lives of the people thay work with, and are some of society’s unsung heroes. The Great British Care Awards looks to redress the lack of recognition that people who work in the social care sector receive, and is recognising and rewarding the very best in the social care workforce, giving them praise and respect for the transformational work that they do every day.” DR RHIDIAN HUGHES CHIEF EXECUTIVE, voluntary organisation disability group (VODG) THE INAUGURAL

Martin was an inspiration to the residents and staff team at Red Brick House and was a deserved winner of the North East’s Enrichment Lead of the year in November 2019. He brought joy and laughter to so many of our residents at Red Brick House, frequently going above and beyond in supporting them. Martin is remembered for many reasons including the time that he reunited one of our residents (a war veteran) with his old war medals which had been lost. Once the medals had been located, Martin arranged a ceremony, which saw 200 people attend to watch Tommy being reunited with his medals. There wasn’t a dry eye in the home. Through Martin’s efforts, Red Brick House has become the centre of the local Prudhoe community hosting the local knitting club, coffee mornings, gardening clubs and hosting Prudhoe Youth, where the children regularly visit Red Brick House to undertake projects in and around our home.

We couldn’t have been prouder of Martin and his achievements, and more so that his contribution to the wellbeing of our residents had been recognised. We were greatly looking forward to celebrating those achievements with Martin here again this evening. Sadly, Martin passed away late last year. He was our ray of sunshine on a cloudy day and brought smiles to the faces of all of our residents. He was a big personality both in our home and in the local community. Martin is greatly missed by all of the residents at Red Brick THE GREAT BRITISH CARE AWARDS THE GREAT BRITISH CARE House, and by his colleagues, but never forgotten.
