Averaging one try assist and eight tackle- breaks per game, Ponga is a crucial member of the Knights’ team. He puts his best foot forward every match and is a reliable source of creativity. However, he still believes there’s room for improvement in his game, and that consistency needs to be a focal point. “My goal is to play consistent footy. As an individual and as a team we could be more consistent,” he says. Despite Ponga’s call for more consistency, his team is travelling well, sitting sixth on the ladder and having only lost to the Roosters, Dragons and Storm. It’s a better position than they were in this time last season – sitting dead last with only one win. Ponga puts their recipe for success down to mateship and work ethic. “Hard work and dedication is what’s getting us over the line. We’ve got a pretty close group too, which is surprising considering how long we’ve been together. The boys are awesome, I love them and that’s a big part of why we’re doing well,” he says.
