Lord’s Grace Christian Church 1101 San Antonio Rd Mountain View, CA 94043 (650) 623-0917 Sunday Worship Service ENGLISH SERVICE // April 19, 2020 A MOST UNLIKELY WITNESS Speaker: Pastor David Huang Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1-8 (ESV) • How can we Shine Together now? By showing kindness in a stressed out world. • An unfortunate rise of racism against Asians. My experience in junior high. • Our reality isn’t scarcity. 2 Kings 5 series on sharing our hope with those different from us. 1 N aaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was 2 a leper. N ow the Syrians on one of their raids had carried off a little girl from the land of Israel, and she 3 worked in the service of Naaman's wife. She said to her mistress, “Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” • Naaman had power, success, and leprosy. Only an Israelite slave girl could help him. 4 5 S o Naaman went in and told his lord, “Thus and so spoke the girl from the land of Israel.” A nd the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. • Naaman was unbelievably responsive because he saw his brokenness. • The girl’s childlike faith began an improbable chain of communication. 6 A nd he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, “When this letter reaches you, know 7 that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy.” A nd when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me.” • We can see God’s grace as merely human. We can affirm truths about God without praying. 8 B ut when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel.” • Naaman’s healing wasn’t as important as his faith. Miracles are only a sign. • Much more than Elisha, Jesus is our confidence that God is among us. (Heb. 3:5-6) • People want to hear and share good news on John Krasinski’s Some Good News. • Even Paul was rejected, but he endured & encouraged us to. (2 Tim. 2:20; Rom. 10:14-15) • God reached an open heart by the simple faith of a most unlikely witness. ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. The Coronavirus situation may have affected our church members in many ways.
