ABSTRACT The Interaction Volunteers at Imperial War Museums London engage with visitors in the exhibits and discuss about certain artifacts. The communication of information among the Interaction Volunteer team, however, has been inefficient as the system relied on paper resources. Our IQP team surveyed volunteers and conducted a focus group to gather input about layout and features for a potential digital resource which the Interaction Volunteers could use in management of artifactual content and digital forms. This information was then used to design a website utilizing a content management system in order to make the communication of information more simple and efficient for the Interaction Volunteer team. ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Our team would like to thank our advisors, Professors V.J. Dr. Seuss UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON Abstract Humanities Faculty School of Music Doctor of Philosophy The Seven Ages of Musical Theatre: The life cycle of the child performer by Lyndsay Barnbrook The purpose of the research reported here is to explore the part played by children in musical theatre. It aims to do this on two levels. It presents, for the first time, an historical analysis of involvement of children in theatre from its earliest beginnings to the current date. It is clear from this analysis that the role children played in the evolution of theatre has been both substantial and influential, with evidence of a number of recurring themes. Children have invariably made strong contributions in terms of music, dance and spectacle, and have been especially prominent in musical comedy. Playwrights have exploited precocity for comedic purposes, innocence to deliver difficult political messages in a way that is deemed acceptable by theatre audiences, and youth, recognising the emotional leverage to be obtained by appealing to more primitive instincts, notably sentimentality and, more contentiously, prurience. Every age has had its child prodigies and it is they who tend to make the headlines. However the influence of educators and entrepreneurs, artistically and commercially, is often underestimated. Although figures such as Wescott, Henslowe and Harris have been recognised by historians, some of the more recent architects of musical theatre, like Noreen Bush, are largely unheard of outside the theatre community.

In all 21 grants of approximately £500.00 were awarded over the two tranches to 19 different museums, with an additional 2 projects supported through the Regional Conservation Team programme as a direct result of their Collection Grant applications. A total of £10,162.12 was awarded through the 2016-17 Collection Grant programme. All the projects were completed to schedule and 9 of the 19 museums provided additional funds towards the final project. What the grants were used for: Projects to enhance collection care/housekeeping through purchase of equipment or materials. 10 Conservation or conservation assessment of objects 2 Projects to improve collection management through purchase of materials, digitisation, training etc 4 Projects to improve emergency preparedness 1 Projects to enhance environmental monitoring 4 Notable successes this year included a project to scan a portrait of Catherine Dickens, held in the Charles Dickens Museum collection, to determine its provenance.

At the same time, other areas in the visual display are often 6 overlooked. Thus, a designer should carefully consider drawing viewers’ attention to important 7 information and reducing viewers’ attentional load on unimportant information. 8 Web designers recently tend to present all the information on a long page, and the 9 viewers need to scroll down to see different blocks of information. This new trend is probably 10 due to frequent mobile device use in our daily life, and we become more familiar with scrolling. 11 A critical piece of information on this type of webpage is to notify people to scroll down. 12 Otherwise, this design would be a complete failure. To successfully deliver this message, 13 designers can use preattentive features, such as motion, to draw people’s attention. For example, 14 on Google Drive’s webpage, the down arrow at the bottom of page informs people to scroll 15 down. Although the color makes the down arrow to stand out from the background, the 16 additional movement of the arrow is the key factor that draws people’s attention. Thus, dynamic 17 arrows can be useful to draw people’s attention to scroll down. 18 If a webpage is filled with dynamic objects, it will create competition between 19 information. To avoid this issue, other methods should be used to draw viewers’ attention.

    Freud’s House: The Double Mirror Dr Anneke Pettican | Brass Art Freud’s House: The Double Mirror Dr Anneke Pettican | Brass Art To explore the idea of the uncanny using strategies of visual and sonic repetition and simultaneous ‘doublings’, seeking Project a physical manifestation in the unsettling experience of the mirrored projection and its intimate binaural soundtrack Description as manifest in the final installation. Freud’s House: The Double Mirror (2015) is a video work with binaural soundtrack created at the Freud Museum, London that seeks to explore a fundamental instability akin to an expanded view of the uncanny. The work exists in two forms: a single screen work with binaural sound titled Freud’s House: The Double (2015); and a two screen, floating, suspended video installation with binaural sound transmitted to wireless headphones titled Freud’s House: The Double Mirror (2015). Project Duration: Research began in 2014. Brass Art began the project in 2015 and first installed the artefact at The International 3 from 17th September – 30th October 2015. Funder: Freud’s House: The Double Mirror has been widely exhibited and screened across Europe and Asia, and its themes have been further developed in journal articles, essays and conference symposia. Brass Art is the collaborative art practice of: Chara Lewis Manchester School of Art – MMU, Kristin Mojsiewicz Edinburgh College of Art – The University of Edinburgh, and Anneké Pettican School of Art, Design, Architecture – University of Huddersfield. (15-30 min.) • Explore the Tower of London. Keep your tour short, but be sure to check out the Crown Jewels. (1-2 hrs.) • Walk across the Tower Bridge. It's the fancy blue one. (15 min.) From here you get the best view of the Tower of London for photos. • Cross over to Butler's Wharf and enjoy lunch at one of the riverfront restaurants near where Bridget lived in Bridget Jones's Diary. (1.5 hrs.) • Keeping the Thames on your right, you'll come to the warship HMS Belfast. Tours daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (30 min.-1 hr.) • Walk up London Bridge Street to find The Borough Market. Used in countless films, it is said to be the city's oldest fruit and vegetable market, dating from the mid-1200s. February 26, 2018 | By IAN PARKER Stephen Ross, the seventy-seven-year-old billionaire property developer and the owner of the Miami Dolphins, has a winningly informal, old-school conversational style. On a recent morning in Manhattan, he spoke of the moment, several years ago, when he decided that the plaza of one of his projects, Hudson Yards—a Doha-like cluster of towers on Manhattan’s West Side—needed a magnificent object at its center. He recalled telling him- self, “It has to be big. It has to be monumental.” He went on, “Then I said, ‘O.K. Who are the great sculptors?’ ” (Ross pronounced the word “sculptures.”) Before long, he met with Thomas Heatherwick, the acclaimed British designer of ingenious, if sometimes unworkable, things. Ross told me that there was a presentation, and that he was very impressed by Heatherwick’s “what do you call it—Television? Internet?” An adviser softly said, “PowerPoint?” Ross was in a meeting room at the Time Warner Center, which his company, Related, built and partly owns, and where he lives and works. We had a view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. The room was filled with models of Hudson Yards, which is a mile and a half southwest, between Thirtieth and Thirty-third Streets, and between Tenth Avenue and the West Side Highway. There, Related and its partner, Oxford Properties Group, are partway through erecting the complex, which includes residential space, office space, and a mall—with such stores as Neiman Marcus, Cartier, and Urban Decay, and a Thomas Keller restaurant designed to evoke “Mad Men”—most of it on a platform built over active rail lines.

All but .73 acres of the park lie in downtown Phila-* delphia, within or near the Society Hill and Old City Historic Districts (National Register entries as of June 23, 1971, and May 5, 1972, respectively).
