Department of Studies - A Brief Profile

Jnana Sahyadri Campus Jnana Sahyadri campus is located at Shankaraghatta at a distance of 26 kms away from Shivamogga town, the district headquarters and 18 kms from Bhadravathi, the well-known industrial town. The main campus can be reached by bus services from Shivamogga, Bhadravathi and Tarikere towns which are close to the campus and are well connected by road and rail. The campus is only 2 kms from the magnificent Bhadra Reservoir across the river Bhadra - one of the important lifelines of the area.

The academic life on the campus is vibrant and exciting with seminars, symposia, special lectures and workshops round the year. All academic programmes have updated course curricula/syllabi responding to the needs of the contemporary society; and the research orientatFion is innovative, original and directed to societal needs. Kuvempu University is introducing two year M.Sc. Psychology programme from the academic year 2020-21 at Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute (KAPMI), Shivamogga, aCollege affiliated to the university. The course shall be offered at KAPMI. To meet the challenges of Mental Health in contemporary society there is dire necessity of providing higher education in Psychology. It is also a subject which is essential component of interdisciplinary research in social and medical sciences. Employment and research opportunities have opened up at clinics, industries, corporate sectors, counseling centers, research and educational institutions which are likely to increase manifold in the post–COVID context. The M.Sc. Psychology programme has been designed by the university to blend theoretical knowledge and practical experience. KAPMI is a unit of Manasa Trust which also provides mental health facilities to about 250 distressed individuals every day. Programmeoffered: M.Sc. Psychology

Eligibility:Candidates who have passed the bachelor degree examination with psychology as a optional subject for 3 years of study can apply. They should have obtained a minimum of 50% in the aggregate marks in the subject of psychology at the bachelor’s degree examination in case of general merit category and 45% in case of SC/ST candidates. Admissions shall be made on the basis of 50% of marks obtained by the candidate in the written test and 50% of marks obtained in the aggregate of the optional subjects.

Entrance Test: The written entrance test consists of 100 objective type questions, answered in 100 min. duration, for a maximum of 100 marks. Questions will be aimed at testing the aptitude of the candidate as well as familiarity with the relevant subject. Entrance test shall be held at KAPMI on the notified date.

Please note: The M.Sc. Psychology programme is bonafide course of the university and admissions shall be made at the university.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ CELL

The Students’ Supportive Service Centre was established in 2018. The International Students’ Cell is a part of this centre. The aim of this centre is to promote global perspective in the teaching, research and outreach programs of the University. The centre works in close collaboration with the Post-Graduate Departments, affiliated Colleges and also other Academic and Research Institutions of Kuvempu University. Kuvempu University has envisioned the International Students’ Cell as a Single Window that would co-ordinate foreign students.

The Kuvempu University has emerged as a University acclaimed educational hub and its foreign students’ strength has been rising year by year. The University’s academic image an ambience that is perfect to the reckoning for the pursuit of knowledge. Students from various Asian and African countries such as Yemen, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia and Eretria have been the alumni of this university since more than a decade.

The International Students’ Cell assists the foreign students in eligibility assessment, admission, obtaining Study/ Research Visa and residential permit. It establishes linkages with Institutions, help freshers to connect with fellow citizens. The International Students Cell also

disseminates information on study abroad opportunities and avenues for academic collaborations to faculty and students of various University Departments and Colleges. The International Students’ Cell functions as a liaison between the foreign students, Academic Institutions, Faculty, University Offices, Diplomatic Missions, State/ Central Government Departments, Police/ Intelligence and other legal agencies. The Cell maintains the data base of foreign students studying in the university. The University provides Hostel, Health and Library facilities to all the students with in the campus. International Students’ Cell organises the following activities for the benefit of foreign students:  Functional English training course for non-English medium foreign students after admission.  Awareness programme about law of the land, in association with Police Department.  Sports and Cultural Programmes.

The admission process starts during June every year. Foreign students seeking admission for Undergraduate / Post-Graduate courses may contact the International Student’s Cell during the months of April and May every year. The details of academic courses and other information are provided in the University’s website. Admission Procedure :

The foreign students those who want to seek admission in the University PG Departments/ Constituent Colleges / Affiliated Colleges for UG/ PG/ Ph.D/ Post Doctoral/ Diploma and Certificate Courses have to download the ‘Eligibility Assessment’ and ‘Admission Application Form’ from University website.(www.kuvempu.ac.in) to confirm their eligibility.

The Minimum qualifications for different programmes of the Kuvempu University are as follows:

Under-Graduate (UG) Courses : Pass in 10 + 2 level course (equivalent to 12 years of schooling)

UG Diploma Courses : Pass in 10+2 level course.

UG Certificate Courses : Pass in 10th (X).

Post-Graduate (PG) Courses : Pass in 3 or 4 years Undergraduate Programme of a recognized University and must have secured minimum percentage as prescribed in admission regulations.

Post-Graduate Diploma : Pass in 3 or 4 years Undergraduate programme offered of a recognized University.

Ph.D : Pass in two Years Master Degree in the qualifying subject or an allied subject where inter-disciplinary research is permitted. A candidate must have minimum of 55% in the Post Graduation.

Post-Doctoral : Candidate must have Ph.D in subject concerned.

Note: 1) The foreign degrees must be recognised by the Competent Authority of their own country. The University lays down additional qualifications periodically as per admission regulations.

2) The foreign students must possess Study Visa for UG / PG / Diploma / Certificate Course and Research Visa for Ph.D / Post Doctoral Programmes. Visa regulations do not permit tourist / X Visa to pursue any academic programmes.
