Seu destaque é a pluralidade de olhares sobre este campo do conhecimento, já totalmente identificado e reconhecido pela academia, demarcado por grupos e autores engajados em uma reflexão aprofundada sobre amplos aspectos da atividade nos 20 países do sub-continente. Um desses grupos, a Plataforma de Reflexão sobre o Audiovisual Latino-americano (PRALA), da Universidade Federal Fluminense, foi o responsável pela entrevista desta edição, com o crítico, historiador e pesquisador Paulo Antonio Paranaguá, hoje jornalista do Le monde, que conta em seu currículo com títulos já clássicos da literatura cinematográfica. A entrevista foi realizada quando da realização do Encontro da SOCINE em Fortaleza, em outubro de 2014. Paulo Paranaguá reflete sobre as particularidades da história comparada e sobre a retórica latino-americanista frente a uma integração ineficaz; fala do peso das relações triangulares que envolvem a América, a Europa e as nossas culturas do sul do continente, com seus diálogos harmoniosos ou tensos no campo das artes. Fala também da produção transnacional, do documentário, dos processos críticos e dos limites da interpretação. Paulo aborda ainda temas de seu mais novo livro, resenhado na Rebeca nº 6. O dossiê desta edição, seguindo a temática estabelecida para o XVIII Encontro da SOCINE em Fortaleza, traz o cinema latino-americano para o centro dos debates, ao mesmo tempo que, em movimento centrífugo, expande a ideia de “latino” para incluir outras identidades que cruzam o continente e também o ampliam para o mediterrâneo e além. Nossa intenção é defender uma ideia de que “latinidade” se interrelaciona e ultrapassa fronteiras e culturas nacionais, e mesmo entre continentes. Os autores dos textos selecionados carregam consigo essas marcas identitárias: americana-cubana, anglo-canadense, norte- americano, alemão, franco-americana, venezuelano-canadense e argentino. Culturas em interação e confronto. Ana Lopez investiga novas relações de poder (político, estético, econômico, ideológico) na sempre desigual e hemisférica via de mão dupla entre o Sul e Norte. Promising Paradise: Cuban Allure, American Seduction, on view May 6 through August 21, 2016, sheds light on the glamour and exoticism of tourism campaigns that lured Americans to their southerly neighbor, as well as the remarkable impact of Cuban culture in the U.S. that resulted from this contact—from rumba and mambo to Afro-Cuban jazz and Latin nightclubs. Complementing the hundreds of photographs, posters, and promotional ephemera on display will be a series of reproduction record album covers and a floor installation of Arthur Murray dance steps in The Wolfsonian’s historic lobby, together activating the museum’s first floor with a summer-long celebration of Cuban music and dance.
