Parks & Recreation Commission Annual Update Commission Purpose The Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Commission (PRC), under the general direction of the City Council, establishes policy for management of the parks and recreation facilities and activities. The PRC is established by the City of Hillsboro Charter, Chapter X, Section 39. Connection. Community. The mission of the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council is to promote and support the growth of arts and culture as assets for a vital, prosperous, and livable community. PERFORMANCE Walters Concert Series: • The 2019-20 Concert Series served over 1,500 audience members of all ages. • Audiences experienced a diverse season of musical and cultural influences: Americana, Jazz, Latin, Folk, Soul, Modern Dance, Gospel, Opera, Pop, and Roots. EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT • Walters’ Arts Education offerings reached over 1,300 students and community members, pre-school to seniors. • 120 classes and mini-camps in fine and performing arts. • The Community Arts program partnered with Beaverton Cultural Arts and Tualatin Valley Creates to offer five professional development workshops for artists and arts & culture organizations. “My favorite thing was bringing my ideas to life.” - Student, Youth Sculptors VISUAL ARTS • 77 artists showcased in our galleries. • “Homecoming” exhibit featured 30 artists that graduated from Hillsboro High School’s art program, with teacher Judy Clark. • 1650 people visited the Walters for First Tuesday Art Walk. • December Arts and Artisan Pop-Up Shop included 40 vendors and over 480 attending.
