Gunnerkrigg Court Volume One: Orientation | Gunnerkrigg Court Wiki | Fandom Antimony Carver is a precocious and preternaturally self-possessed young girl starting her first year of school at gloomy Gunnerkrigg Court, Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 very British boarding school that has robots running around alongside body-snatching demons, forest gods, and the odd mythical creature. The opening volume in the series follows Antimony through her orientation year: the people she meets, the strange things that happen, and the things she causes to happen as she and her new friend, Kat, unravel the mysteries of the Court and deal with the everyday adventures Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 growing up. Antimony is a fascinating main character — an unusual child who is confident enough to stand up for herself and others and who has no issue with calmly taking down bullies or going against pervading popular opinion. A storyline involving Kat getting a crush on another student is particularly well done and very moving. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this volume and will definitely check out Volume 2. Oct 25, Cristina Monica rated it really Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 it Shelves: graphic-novelboarding-school. What a mysterious school. Well, this is no Harry Potter for sure, but Gunnerkrigg Court is very much magical also and full of secrets. I may be too old, but maybe in another life, who knows. But somehow… it works. So she is here. And while other students seem to accept the strangeness of this place Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 a shrug, Antimony is Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 curious young lady who wants to understand her surroundings. Also, unhuman souls seem to gravitate around her. This is a story like no other. Apr 25, David Schaafsma rated it liked it Shelves: gn-superhero-scifi-fantasygn-ya. I know some of my Goodreads friends and I will have to disagree here, but I—late to this party—am not enthralled by this comics series, originally a web-comic. The story takes place at a British boarding school, Gunnerkrigg Court, a science school where Antimony Carver, whose Mom has just died, is a new student. I love Harry Potter, another British boarding school series, but I am generally not a fantasy fan. This one does have magic and mystery, and robots, and a bff Kat who is kinda cool, but I know some of my Goodreads friends and I will have to disagree here, but I—late to this party—am not enthralled by this comics series, originally a web-comic. Okay, the characters are kinda cute, I guess. I like how she has a second shadow and her room at school includes an entire meadow. I like it when it seems to indicate it might get a bit darker in tone. Does it, later? Is it worth my time to continue? View all 6 comments. Sep 28, Rebecca McNutt rated it it was amazing Shelves: britishschoolfantasygraphic-novelsenglandfriendshipfictionGunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1. With themes similar to the Harry Potter book series, Gunnerkrigg Court is a spectacular graphic novel with everything from friendship to fantastic mythical creatures. The author's art style is amazing, too. Shelves: fantasy-sci-figraphic-novel. Unfortunately, I didn't have as much time to read this as I planned to and had to wait several weeks between reading the first half and the second half. Thus, I think a few things weren't totally clear but I will chalk this up to my hiatus Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol. 1 than any fault of the author. There is a great deal of humor and wit and some very charming scenes along with some more mysterious-- a bit of the occult, a Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation Vol.

This thesis examines how the creators of free content, specifically webcomics, are able to monetise their work and find financial success through crowdfunding and what factors, social and psychological, support this process. Consistent with crowdfunding being both a large-scale social process yet based on the interactions of individuals (albeit en mass), this topic was explored at both micro- and macro-level combining methods from individual interviews through to mass scraping of data and large-scale questionnaires.

Bixbies, Shapers,Wizards, Gods, Devils, Outside Observers, call them what you will, these are the guys that change reality based on perception and willpower." — Transcript of Dr. Clef's Seminar, "Reality Benders and You: How To Survive When The Universe Doesn't ", SCP Foundation Ever heard of the Superpower Lottery? Well, kid, you just won the grand prize. You can create, change, or destroy things or even alter reality just by thinking about it. The key issue here is how far they can take this. A character with a mild form of this power (which isn't seen very often) may be able to will a new subatomic particle into existence. A ridiculously overpowered character may be able to hiccup and accidentally tear the very fabric of the space-time continuum asunder. High-end Reality Warpers tend to also be Reality Makers. For the really high end ones, see The Omnipotent. Needless to say, running into characters with such powers can be incredibly chancy. Arguing with the more powerful ones may well be futile, especially since they can literally, in the words of Paul from The Dungeonmaster (or Adam Savage), reject your reality and substitute their own. Since absolute power corrupts absolutely, a character with this high a level of power is quite likely to go bad. They might even deem themselves to be gods. Especially for the higher-end ones, it's hard to dispute this assessment.

  • Self Publishing: Comics in the 80S and Early 90S
Self Publishing: Comics in the 80s and Early 90s By: Emily, Iris, & Patrick Introduction Self-Publishing is not a new phenomena. In comic publication, however, the Self-Publishing Movement officially started in the 1980s, and ran into the early 1990s, covering a swath of fantastic writing and illustrating, while creating a lasting impact on the medium. Picture Source: https://sites.google.com/site/applebasketarlibrary/ Changes in the Publishing Industry and the Rise of Self-Publishing ● 1980s: Department stores were known as booksellers in addition to clothing and housewares. However, by the mid-80s, national book retailer chains, such as Walden, Dalton, and Crown rose in popularity. During this time news media drew attention to authors’ advance payments. Publishing agents from rival companies would bid against each other to acquire promising new titles (Osnos, 2011). ● 1990s: Barnes & Nobles grew to dominate the retail market and absorbed Dalton and Walden. Crown went out of business. Smaller independent book sellers struggle to compete with superstores (Osnos, 2011). Changes in the Publishing Industry and the Rise of Self-Publishing ● 1990s continued: Consolidation also occurred in the publishing market as companies were absorbed into the entertainment divisions of larger profit-driven companies. Publishers were pressured to acquire titles that would create profit for the parent company. This made it especially difficult for authors, new and seasoned, to get their books published (Dilevko & Dali, 2006). ● Since publishers did not want to take risks, authors began to explore self-publishing in earnest. Print-on-demand (POD) became an option to authors as internet-based services, such as AuthorHouse, iUniverse, and Xlibris, began to appear in the mid-90s.
