Placer Repertory Theater seeks actors for four episodes of a digital series on YouTube, : Detective Mysteries Series. These approx. 10-minute episodes are new comedic detective stories inspired by the characters of Sir . Set in the present (2020), the characters of Holmes & Watson are borrowed from the 1890s (). The scripts explore the bro-mance, passive-aggression and power/status struggles within domestic relationships while solving a “domestic mystery” from Holmes’ domicile.

Performance stipend: $40 per episode in which the actor is cast, and a digital copy of the episode.

Due to COVID-19, actors rehearse with the full cast via Zoom and shoot in their own home using their own camera (smart phone) in front of a green screen (screen and technical instruction provided). Occasionally, some scenes may be shot in an open, outdoor environment in which each actor is more than six feet from other performers (such as a park).

SCHEDULE

Rehearsal and shoot dates/times are based upon cast members’ availability

- Rehearsal: One rehearsal held via Zoom for each episode, with technical discussion (approximately 1.5 hours). - Shooting from home, and 15 minutes with the Director as you begin to shoot (usually about 1.5 hours total)

Those who are not cast, your digital submission will be saved and reviewed for future casting opportunities.

CHARACTERS

Episode 3: The

Wiggins: A young runaway orphan who has found a home on the street among the Baker Street Irregulars. Wiggins is headstrong, street-smart, and a natural leader. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. (age 16+)

Burke: An intimidating-looking biker, but a gentle soul just beneath the surface. Burke works with less out of necessity and more for the excitement of it. Generally deferential, a natural follower. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities.

Jensen: A street-hardened sex worker of few words. Jensen has been on the street and working with the Irregulars for many years now, and thus is intimidated by very little. Jensen answers to Wiggins in this instance more out of respect for the hierarchy of the Irregulars, less out of respect. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities.

Episode 4: Logline Sherlock Holmes is approached by of Scotland Yard, who engages Holmes to solve a puzzling case without being able to investigate the scene of the crime, nor meet the suspects and victims, by employing the special skills of Wiggins, and the Baker Street irregulars. Meanwhile, Dr. Watson and Holmes’ relationship, through music, is tested.

Inspector Lestrade: An inspector for Scotland Yard who consults Holmes on cases that elude the inspector. A big picture thinker, leader, but not detail oriented, nor analytical. Seeks to be the alpha in the room, feel in-charge and superior, yet aware that Holmes’ is the better detective. Insecure, exhibits arrogance and swagger. While the inspector is a serious person, the inspector is comical to the audience and to Holmes, who can see through Lestrade’s bravado to the inspector’s insecurity and lack of skill. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. (Age: 28 – 40)

Wiggins: A young runaway orphan who has found a home on the street among the Baker Street Irregulars. Wiggins is headstrong, street-smart, and a natural leader. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. (Age 13-19, actor age 16+).

Episode 5: Logline

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson meet with a desperate fem fatale client, and a game of cat and mouse ensues. But who is the cat and who is the mouse, how many twists will it take to solve this mystery, and what has all of this to do with the illusive Moriarty?

Vivian Rutledge: An elegant, attractive and mysterious lady. Is she the desperate wife of a man under the thumb of a criminal enterprise, or the cat playing with mice? Is she overwrought, or in control? Innocent or hiding something? (Age 25-40)

Episode 6: Logline

Holmes & Watson interview a client brought in by none other than Holmes’ brother, Mycroft. A domestic issue between husband and wife, may be just the matchsticks to start a war between Britain and Russia, if the love-letters from the Russian diplomat cannot be recovered. And how does Moriarty play a role in all of this?

Mycroft Holmes: Older brother to Sherlock Holmes, and an expert in domestic and international affairs for the British government. While Mycroft is accepted to have a higher IQ and security clearance than Sherlock, but Sherlock has a kind of experience and street-smarts that has been institutionalized out of Mycroft and his ivory towers. (Age: late 20s to 40)

Client: Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. This client is the husband, who has been cuckolded by his wife, or the wife, who has been having an affair, and an exchange of love-letters from a Russian diplomat that may be more than they seem. A member of the Royal court, the client is desperate to resolve the issue of stolen love-letters and their potential importance to Britain’s safety as a nation. Open to actors of all ethnicities and gender identities. (Age 20-45)
