Welcome to Worship! Job and Creation

(Scroll to the bottom to see pictures of creation submitted by members of St. Tim’s.)

Prelude

Opening P - We are saved by God’s grace! C - Through our Lord, Jesus Christ!

Gathering Song - “Morning Has Broken” Morning has broken, like the first morning; Blackbird has spoken like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven, Like the first dewfall on the first grass. Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden, Sprung in completeness where God’s feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning, Born of the one light Eden saw play! Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning, God’s recreation of the new day!

Confession and Forgiveness P – Seeking reconciliation with God, neighbor, and all of creation, let us remember the gift of baptism and confess our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection

P – God of mercy, C – we confess that we have sinned against you, against one another, and against the earth entrusted to our care. You have made us creators in your image and taught us to walk in your ways. But we have rebelled against you, wandered far away, and used your gifts for destruction. Do not forget us, O God. Call us again to live in your light and the fullness of your love. P – Rejoice with all creation around God’s throne! The light of the risen Christ puts to flight all evil, washes away sin, casts out hate, and brings peace. Jesus Christ loves you and frees you from your sins. To Christ be given glory forever and ever! C – Amen.

Greeting P - The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C - And also with you.

Prayer of the Day P – Let us pray. Saving God, C – The heavens declare your glory, and the sky proclaims its maker’s handiwork. May we, with Job and all creation, join in songs of praise for the gift of God’s creation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Song - “Shout to the Lord” My Jesus, my Saviour, Lord, there is none like you. All of my days I want to praise the wonders of your mighty love, My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength; Let ev’ry breath, all that I am never cease to worship you.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth; let us sing Power and majesty praise to the King. Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of your name. I sing for joy at the work of your hands; forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand. Nothing compares to the promise I have in you.

Sermon

Song - “So Will I (One Billion Times)” God of creation, there at the start before the beginning of time. With no point of ref’rence, You spoke to the dark and fleshed out the wonder of light. And as You speak, a hundred billion galaxies are born, In the vapor of Your breath the planets form. If the stars were made to worship, so will I. I can see Your heart in ev’rything You’ve made, ev’ry burning star, a signal fire of grace. If creation sings Your praises, so will I.

God of Your promise, You don’t speak in vain, no syllable empty or void. For once You have spoken, all nature and science follow the sound of Your voice. And as You speak, a hundred billion creatures catch Your breath. Evolving in pursuit of what You said. If it all reveals Your nature, so will I. I can see Your heart in ev’rything You say, ev’ry painted sky, a canvas of Your grace. If creation still obeys You, so will I. So will I.

If the stars were made to worship, so will I. If the mountains bow in rev’rence so will I. If the oceans roar Your greatness, so will I. For if ev’rything exists to lift You high, so will I. If the wind goes where You send it, so will I. If the rocks cry out in silence, so will I. If the sum of all our praises still falls shy, then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times.

God of salvation, You chased down my heart, through all of my failure and pride. On a hill You created, the light of the world, abandoned in darkness to die. And as You speak, a hundred billion failures disappear; where You lost Your life so I could find it here. If you left the grave behind You, so will I. I can see Your heart in ev’rything You’ve done, ev’ry part designed in a work of art called love. If You gladly chose surrender, so will I. I can see Your heart eight billion diff’rent ways. Ev’ry precious one, a child You died to save. If You gave Your life to love them, so will I. Like You would again a hundred billion times. But what measure could amount to Your desire? You’re the One who never leaves the one behind.

Apostle's Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer for God’s Guidance Through Creation

Lord’s Prayer C - Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Blessing P – God’s blessing be upon you, Christ’s peace be upon you, the Spirit’s outpouring be within you and among you this day and always. C – Amen.

Sending Song - “This Is the Day” This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made; We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it. This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made.

Dismissal A - Go in Peace. Christ is sending you! C - Thanks be to God!
