5 major projects covered this month:

• Women Empowerment • Gandhi Jayanti

• Library inauguration at • Bags and Books Distribution centre

• Volunteer Speak

NIIT Computer course Certificate distribution

Despite lockdown, we managed to not only complete the NIIT computer course of some 20 of our students but also prepared them for the exam which is conducted online by NIIT itself. All fared well and passed and have been awarded their certificates this month. Congratulations to them and hope they either continue to do advanced level courses or find jobs.

Gandhi Jayanti

This day was marked by DBM in undertaking 4 very important projects.

First was to hold a talk in association with BMA on Lessons from Bapu. The speaker was Shri Tushar Gandhi,

eminent author and social worker and the great grandson of Gandhi ji. Library inauguration at Trombay centre

Secondly we inaugurated a Library

at our Trombay centre. Keeping

with our mission of improving the education of the communities served

by us and especially our vocational training students, the Library is a step forward in that direction. Our young budding teachers doing the ECCE course hopefully will be goaded to read more and that will have a trickle down affair on the children they will teach.

Books Distribution

Thirdly we also distributed Science and Maths books to the 8th, 9th and

10th class students and even digests and guides to class 10 students to help them prepare better for their exams. These students are being taught by us online since pandemic as their schools are closed since March. Fourthly during the Covid Pandemic many students have been deprived of school essentials and the motivation to Study. At this Time DBM India initiated a E learning platform especially for the students of M Ward where they are taught all subjects by Teachers and Volunteers on a Virtual Platform.

To encourage and engage them more we are providing them with School text books and note books and we heartfully appreciate and thank Mr Jayant

Lapsia- Chairman of Shree Hariharaputra Bhajan Samaj and all the

Trustees for providing our students with School bags to encourage them and to maintain a study atmosphere. We thank Prof R.S.S.Mani for all his help in arranging this. We at DBM appreciate the continued support of the Samaj to DBM in the field of Education and Empowerment. God Bless.

Volunteer Speak

Hello this is Anusha Vimalakasha and I am studying electrical engineering at Bangalore. I have a friend who has been helping and teaching at a boarding school for orphan kids and that is what always inspired me. I realised that education is not all

about being a topper or just mugging up your subjects but it is more about what you do with your knowledge and experience. It should be shared.

One day I was searching for such an opportunity where I can teach students online and through iVolunteer I got to know about DBM India. They too are making efforts to teach the children from the disadvantaged sections of society. I joined them as a teacher in August 2020. I started teaching the 10th science batch. The only challenge I had was to speak fluent Hindi as the kids were based in but my kids were too good and adjusted to my teaching.

I am really thankful to DBM India for giving me this platform. I was happy to see that despite the pandemic, DBM had not allowed the education of these children to suffer and had taken help from volunteers like me to continue their education. I wish that every child in India gets the knowledge and education that he or she deserves.

Hi, my name is Amaan Gaziyani and

I am doing my Bachelors in Engineering (C.E.) from D.Y. Patil, .I have always dreamt of doing something for society since I was a child and DBM India has given me that opportunity. DBM India is

educating children from the slums whose schools could not offer online education as they lacked resources.

It’s been 4 months with DBM India now and the experience is just amazing. I got to know about DBM India in the lockdown through one of my friends and I was fortunate enough to get into it and share my knowledge with these extremely talented kids. The pandemic has changed the entire education system and teaching online was the biggest challenge for me. Initially, it was really tough for me as well as for the students as it was something new for all of us but as time passed we got comfortable with this mode as we didnt have any other choice, I guess.

The best thing I discovered in the entire journey was the hunger of these students for knowledge. This motivated me more and made me work harder and harder each day and I ended up learning something new from them too. Sharing knowledge is the best thing an individual can do to bring up some change in the society and I want to thank DBM India for showing their faith in me, to let me share mine with these wonderful kids.

Change is the only constant !
