    From the Dean’s Desk Many little steps joined one after the other is what makes success possible. The Second Term is always the most eventful time of the academic year. This term has been a potpourri of events as the Junior College students participated in a miscellany of sporting events like the Z.P’s, Zonal, Regionals and Nationals as well as literary activi- ties such as debates, elocutions, creative writing, etc. and won accolades in the same. ‘Mama Mia’- the annual musical concert saw some thundering performances on one hand while the Coco Weekend was a resounding success in our endeavour towards healthy and conscious living. The Marathon organised on the 2nd of October, 2019 in aid of the Atkarwadi village in our effort of Rebuilding lives received an overwhelming response from our alumni and parents as well. After the hectic 2nd term examination schedule, the staff and students had a joyful day of unwinding at our picnic to Imagica. The term ended with the much awaited Annual Inter-House Athletic Meet and the 8th edition of the All Maharashtra Anglos Meet. To conclude, I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to our Principal, Mr. J. Edwin, and the members of the Governing Body for all their support and encouragement.     Robert Wise’s The Day the Earth Stood Still Part I: A Religious Film? By Anton Karl Kozlovic Fall 2013 Issue of KINEMA ROBERT WISE’S THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL Part I: A RELIGIOUS FILM? Abstract Science fiction (SF) films have frequently been the home for subtextual biblical characters, particularly Christ-figures. Crafting these sacred subtexts can make the difference between an ordinary filmandan exceptional one. This investigation intends to explore the religious and other dimensions of the 1951 SF cult classic The Day the Earth Stood Still directed by Robert Wise. In Part 1 of this analytical triptych, the film’s reception as a UFO film with political, artificial intelligence (AI), police and philosophical dimensions was canvassed. It was argued that Wise’s film contains all of the above genre dimensions; however, it can bemore fully appreciated as a profoundly religious film wrapped in contemporary scientific garb. The forthcoming parts will explore the factual elements of this proposition in far greater analytical detail. Introduction: SF and Sacred Storytelling Historically speaking, science fiction (SF) films(1) have harboured numerous hidden biblical characters in typically covert forms. For example, Barry McMillan described many an SF alien as ”a ’transcendent’ being - a benign entity who brings wisdom and knowledge, the imparting of which brings resolution, insight and the beginnings of personal or political harmony” (360). Whilst Bonnie Brain argued that: ”The ascendancy of the aliens derives strongly from their aura of religious authority. Teachers, mystics, priests, or prophets, capable of ”miracles” and, in some cases, ”resurrection,” these aliens flirt with divinity” (226).

In the patriot message in which the envisioned was an urban North Indian, Hindu male, Sikh characters were uprooted and made to give entertainment. Bollywood stars have donned the turban to turn Sikh cool, Sikhs view the representation of the community in Bollywood as demeaning and have attempted to revive the Punjabi film industry as an attempt at authentic self-representation. But with the passage of time the Bollywood makers experimented with the role and images of Sikh character. Sunny Deol's starrer movie Border and Gadar led a foundation of Sikh identity and real image of Sikh community and open the doors for others. This paper examines representation of Sikhs in new Bollywood films to inquire if the romanticization of Sikhs as representing rustic authenticity is a clever marketing tactic used by the Bollywood.
