Jr. a Western Final Report Brian Broks September 2014 I Was the RMLL Jr. A Western Final Report Brian Broks September 2014 I was the RMLL and Jr. A representative at the Jr. A Western Final hosted by the Coquitlam Adanacs. This was the first Meeting of the Winners of the Alberta and BC Jr. Leagues with the winner advancing to the Minto Cup. I was there on behalf of the Calgary Mountaineers. The Western final is somewhat different as it is a best of five and not tournament play. As rep for the RMLL, I have a few roles. I am one of three committee members who support the CLA Convener (name escapes me) for the series. I was joined on this committee by the BCJALL Commissioner Ken Wood. We represent our respective leagues, make sure the teams are aware that we are playing by official CLA rules and act as the discipline committee for the series. My second role was to support the Calgary Mountaineers as the Alberta representative. The Mountaineers are coached by Rick Windl and Managed by Duane Bratt. I have worked with Duane in the past and working with both Rick and Duane was easy. There were no discipline issues that needed to be dealt with during the series. I also acted as the go between for the team and the CLA convener. The only issues that arose here was some questionable officiating in game two for which we approached the CLA convener to assign the referees from the first game for the reminder of the series. One area of concern for me throughout the series was the consistency of the officiating which was addressed after game two. However, this may have been less of an issue had we sent an Alberta official to the series. In the future I would recommend that we choose an Alberta official to be part of the officiating team. The other concerns I have are: Being prepared to host a Minto Cup in the event we win/ would have won the Western Final, the host of next year’s Western Final, and being fully prepared to win a Western Final. If the Mountaineers had won the series we were not prepared to host the Minto Cup. We did not have an arena booked, nor was there a committee in place to host a National Championship of this caliber. This needs to be addressed. Next year we are hosting the Western Final. Presuming it will be held the similar dates as this year we will have great difficulty finding floor time for an event like this at that time of year. And, where/who is going to host? I don’t believe we were in the best position possible to win the Western Final. Calgary was strong early in all of the games but could not keep the pace with Coquitlam for the entire game. I believe the only remedy for this is to somehow join the two leagues. We would have had a higher chance of success if we would have been playing this pace and caliber of lacrosse all year long. All in all, we have to look at the Western Final as a huge success and stepping stone for Alberta Lacrosse. For the first time since creating the Junior A league in Alberta we were successful in defeating what would have been a Minto Cup team in the previous tournament format. The Calgary Mountianeers represented the province of Alberta, the ALA and the RMLL in outstanding form. Game 1: Adanacs 14 - Mountaineers 7 Game 2: Adanacs 13 – Mountaineers 6 Game 3: Mountaineers 9 – Adanacs 8 Game 4: Adanacs 7 – Mountaineers 6 Brian Broks Jr. A Commissioner .

Parent & Player Handbook 2018 - 2019 Welcome! I am extremely excited for my second year with the program. Last year was a great season on the field for all levels and I learned a lot about how to help run the program from an admin standpoint. While there hasn’t been a lot of communication coming from me or the board over the summer, we have been working diligently to make improvements in terms of fundraising and overall streamlining things for the staff, players, and families. Our goal for this year is to streamline and simplify without sacrificing the quality of experience for the players and families and while maintaining equity and simplicity of payments and costs. Another priority for us was to be able to come to the parents and players at the beginning of the year and provide a clear and accurate financial and opportunity roadmap for the entire offseason and season so that families can prepare, plan, and make choices that best work for them. Again, I have been working a lot with the board on these items and we are all really excited about the improvements. – Coach Sulzbacher Coaches Henry is entering his second year as head coach. Prior to arriving at Columbine, he has been an assistant coach at Trinity-Pawling (NY), Fairfax High School (VA), Legend High School, and, most recently, Denver East. Henry has also coached with and continues to coach with the DoCo Devils Lacrosse club. Henry grew up in Seattle and headed to Division III Ohio Wesleyan University. After a year as a defenseman at OWU, he transferred to play at the University of Montana where he was a 3x 1st Team All-Conference player.

Sponsor sheet Sponsor Levels & Details - Alberta Lacrosse Association [email protected] +1 (780) 464-1861 About The Minto Cup is Canada’s Junior A National Lacrosse Championship, a premier sporting event nationwide. This year’s Minto Cup is being hosted by the Alberta Lacrosse Association, the Calgary Mountaineers Junior A Lacrosse Club, and the Okotoks Raiders Junior A Lacrosse Club. This year's championship will take place from August 16th-26th, 2018. The Minto Cup is awarded annually to the champion junior men’s box lacrosse team of Canada. In 1901 the Governor-General, Lord Minto donated the cup. Originally restricted to amateurs, within three years the first under-the-table professional teams were already competing for it. After 1904, with efforts to keep the professionals out of competition proving to be futile, it became open to all challengers. Originally, the competition was between all-star provincial teams formed by adding players to the provincial champion. In 1960 this practice was abandoned, and the trophy has since been competed for by the Junior A provincial champions of British Columbia of the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League, Ontario of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League and recently Alberta, of the RMLL. Your sponsorship will help develop the game of lacrosse throughout Alberta by providing opportunities and eliminating barriers for young Albertan’s to participate in lacrosse. In addition, your brand will be highly visible to a national audience, as well as individuals within local communities. This is a great opportunity to build and strengthen your company with dedicated lacrosse enthusiasts.
