COWRA’S ABORIGINAL DANCERS SHINE AT MARRAMARRA BULLA

On Saturday November 17, Arts OutWest produced a regional showcase of Aboriginal arts held in Parkes, called Marramarra Bulla. Marramarra is a Wiradjuri word for ‘make, create, or do’ and Bulla means two as this was the second Marramarra showcase event held, after a very successful event held in Bathurst last year.

This year’s event in Parkes included a visual art exhibition, live perform- ances, short films and a range of workshops all provided free due to the financial support of Arts NSW; North Parkes Mine (Rio Tinto) and the Office for the Arts (Australian Government).

During the day two live performances featuring singer Evie Willie, the Wagambirra Dance Group from Cowra and the Dindima Dancers from Condobolin were held at the Little Theatre. The Wagambirra Dance Group on this occasion included ten members from Cowra High School and two new members from Cowra Public School. The Cowra dancers had learnt new dances from choreographer Jo Clancy during workshops held during terms 3 and 4. The organisers and those in attendance were most complimentary in their praise for the wonderful Aboriginal dancers from Cowra.
