Reviews Keith Loria, on theatermania.com, called the show “a tender glimpse into the Hineses’ rise to fame and a touching tribute to a brother.” Benjamin Tomchik wrote in Broadway World, that the show “seems determined not only to love the audience, but to entertain them, and it succeeds at doing just that! While Tappin' Thru Life does have some flaws, it's hard to find anyone who isn't won over by Hines showmanship, humor, timing and above all else, talent.” In The Washington Post, Nelson Pressley wrote, “’Tappin’ is basically a breezy, personable concert. The show doesn’t flinch from hard-core nostalgia; the heart-on-his-sleeve Hines is too sentimental for that. It’s frankly schmaltzy, and it’s barely written — it zips through selected moments of Hines’s life, creating a mood more than telling a story. it’s a pleasure to be in the company of a shameless, ebullient vaudeville heart.” Maurice Hines Is .

He was widely noted for his soft, baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres and which he used to become a major force in popular music for 3 decades producing many hit songs for Cole. • The High Notes, How Do They Do It? from Elvis to Pavarotti
The High Notes, how do they do it? From Elvis to Pavarotti The human voice’s limits are frustrating. If we try to sing higher, the voice cracks. Why is this happening and what is the solution to overcome this problem? Covering the sound. What happens, if you want to sing higher? Normally, your voice “brakes”, and you will get from the “chest voice” into the “falsetto” or “head voice”. When you reach a certain limit note, which is different for every voice, you have to shift into the next gear, the next “register”. Women use this shift to get into their second, “normal” singing voice register. If they want to sing higher, they will get sometimes into the third register, and very few into the fourth. In the end, it’s all about singing higher, louder and longer. It’s like sports. It worked for men, too, until 1831 when a Spanish tenor went to Paris and sang the most wanted High C notes with chest voice and not with falsetto. It’s like going in the first gear up to 100 km/h. A special muscular combination mechanism changes shape and dimension of the throat and as a consequence the sound changes too, it becomes darker, hence the name “covered”, “coperto” in Italian. It’s like pouring gas on the fire. The voice gets stronger and it vibrates higher. 200 years of practice says, it’s the only way to do it. All singers tend to look for higher and higher notes in their voice, it’s the human nature to always challenge its limits.
