Special evening visit to the massive Shwedagon Pagoda – famous worldwide – its golden stupa is the ‘Heart’ of Buddhism Myanmar. Day 2:- Depart Yangon, Arrive Bagan. City Tour of Bagan (B) . Today after breakfast you will checkout from your Hotel in Yangon and transfer to Airport for your flight to Bagan. Upon Arrival at Bagan you will be directly taken for the City tour of Bagan. The city tour will cover Bagan’s most important temples and pagodas ranging from the temples with the earliest wall paintings to the prototype pagoda the influenced the designs of later Buddhist monuments. Tour highlights include colorful NyaungOo Market, and Shwezigon Pagoda – built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine, then go to Ananda Temple – King Kyansittha’s masterpiece and the crowning achievement of the early style temple of architecture, next is Thatbyinnyu Temple – the highest building on the Bagan plain, after that visit to Htilominlo Temple – the largest temple of Bagan – noted for its fine plaster carvings and glazed sandstone decorations. In the afternoon observe the process of traditional lacquer ware, one of Myanmar’s best known handicrafts and a specialty of Bagan. Then visit Manuha Temple, Myingabar Gubyaugyi Temple – an early period Pyu-style temple of Hindu influence with some of the oldest mutual paintings in Bagan and Dhamanyangyi Temple noted for its remarkable brickwork. Lastly watch sunset over the Ayeyarwaddy River from Buphaya or Shwesandaw Pagoda. Arrive at the Hotel & Check in . Overnight in Bagan. Day 3:- Visit to Kyaukgu Umin Temple. Today after breakfast you will be taken to visit a tropical village to witness an old Noodle Cottage and observe the daily life the people in Taung Bi Village. Afternoon visit Kyaukgu Umin Temple, which is an interesting rock cave tunnel, and Nagayon, an elegant and well preserved temple containing many Buddha images, the main one which is twice life size and shelters under the hood of a huge serpent. In the evening, enjoy the sunset by boat along Ayeyarwaddy River. OR . You can opt for an Optional ride of Baloon over Bagan (BOB). It is a unique opportunity to see the Bagan with ‘BALLOONS OVER BAGAN’. You get a magnificent birds-eye view of thousand year-old pagodas, temples and the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River as it has never been seen before. The balloon is guided by gentle winds not exceeding 24 km/h. Eight/Six passengers plus a pilot fit into the balloon’s basket. The champagne flights at sunrise last just under an hour and take off daily from October through March. Due to the limited capacity, advance bookings at an early stage are highly recommended. In the afternoon, visit Mahamuni Buddha Image, Zegyo Market and some of Mandalay’s cottage industries, such as weaving and tapestry making, Burmese candy making, Bamboo fan making near Ein Daw Yar Pagoda, Atumahsi Monastery and Shwenandaw Monastery (Golden Palace Monastery), Kuthodaw (MahaLawkamarazein Pagoda) which is famous as the world largest book of many stone slabs on which is inscribed the whole Buddhist Literature. Enjoy the panoramic view of the city from Mandalay Hill. Arrive at the Hotel & Check in . Overnight in Mandalay. Day 5:- Visit to Mingun. (B) . Today after breakfast you will be transferred to Jetty to sail towards Mingun. Witness the world’s 3rd largest bell made by Bronze. But it is said that Buddhist devotees inserted gold, silver ornaments and jewelry in the bronze continue to Mingun Bell, the bell measures eleven cubits and four thits (fingers) in diameter at its mouth: 33 cubits, one mit (6 inches) and four thits in circumference and 13 cubits, one mit and four thit in height. It weighs 55555 viss. Also visit to Hsibyume Paya and Mingun Paya. Then back to Mandalay and proceed to Ava (Inwa).     Archaeological Conservation of Bagan Ancient Monuments in Myanmar Myo Nyunt Aung Independent Researcher Former Deputy Director (DANM) Abstract Bagan covers an area of about 45 - square kilometers along the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. The total numbers of Bagan Buddhist monuments were 4446 in the Bagan period. A number of the monuments at Bagan had been destroyed by natural disasters, vandalism, and age. Now there are 3822 monuments of various sizes still stand- ing in Bagan. Conservation, restoration, renovation and rehabilitation works of the ancient monuments at Bagan in Myanmar with the inscriptional evidences have been undertaken from the Bagan period onwards. Archaeological Conservation works have been started dur- ing the colonial times. Archaeological Conservation on Bagan monuments carried by the Department of Archaeology and National Museum were identified that are consolidation of walls, strengthening with RCC belts, grouting cracks, binding with steel rods, waterproofing on roofs and terraces, inserting tie beams around the terraces, propping inclining walls with temporary steel structures or other materials, pointing, edging and re-plastering, replacement of brick/stone masonry work, improving drainage and landscaping and chemical conservation of the artistic works on ancient monuments. The 2016 earthquake resulted in the removal of many interventions undertaken in 1996-2012. After the earthquake occurred in 2016, it was proved that the monuments which have been repaired and strengthened suffer no structural damage with some slide damage on nonstructural elements. The monuments which have been repaired and partially strengthened suffer structural damage on not strengthened parts. The monuments which have been only repaired generally suffer more damage with some partially collapse.

Ancient chronicles say that there were once 4,446 pagodas and stupas covering its wide plains but today around 2,230 splendid examples remain, as recorded by UNESCO in 1988. Largely built from the 10th to the 14th century, they are found in the Bagan Archaeological Zone, which is defined as an area measuring 104 sq km (40 sq miles) located in the vast expanse of plains in Upper Myanmar on the bend of the mighty Ayeyarwady River. River Being located in the dry central zone of the country, in the region of Mandalay, means that Bagan is not subject to the monsoon season like many other parts of Myanmar. This imbues the river with even greater importance for the inhabitants of the area. While most visitors arrive in Bagan by air or by road, some take a leisurely (and often luxury) river cruise from Yangon or Mandalay to absorb the beauty and history of Bagan. For those who don’t, it is highly recommended to experience a memorable boat excursion in the early evening to capture glimpses of local riverine life and watch the sunset.
