8 OFFICIAL HEATHFIELD & WALDRON TOWN GUIDE 2018-2019 Heathfield & Waldron Parish Council The Parish Council comprises 21 Councillors and covers the market town of Heathfield, the villages of Waldron, Cross-in-Hand, Broad Oak and part of Punnetts Town together with Cade Street and Old Heathfield. There are 6 meetings a year of the full Council, on the second Tuesday of the months of January, March, May, July, September and November. In addition, 4 Committees carry out the work of the Council: Finance and General Purposes Committee, Leisure, Amenities and Burials Committee, Planning and Highways Committee and the Community and Business Development Committee. Meetings are usually held at 7.30 p.m. in the Ian Price Room at Heathfield Community Centre in Sheepsetting Lane or the Parish Council Meeting Room, unless otherwise stated. There are a range of shops including antique shops, newsagent, patisserie, clothes shops, restaurants, tea rooms and delicatessen. Car parking is currently free. In the summer months, the street scene is enhanced by the erection of hanging baskets along the High Street, Station Road and Hailsham Road as well as individual displays provided by the traders themselves. The High Street has seen many improvements in accessibility and appearance due to the hard work of the Heathfield Partnership and more Monday. It is also the site of the village Beacon and there are wonderful views to the coast. A well-known landmark rising high above the village is the Punnetts Town Windmill. CADE STREET AND OLD HEATHFIELD Old Heathfield was the original settlement and boasts a 14th Century Church and Public House. It brings together representatives from all parts of the community in endeavouring to look at priority issues. This has then lead to investigating how best to deal with those issues and indeed how to seek better resources. The successful provision of the CCTV camera system throughout the town and the cold calling exclusion zone are examples of objectives realised. ICT Committee – The bulk of the work of this committee is running the community website, www.heathfield.net, to ensure it represents the needs of the whole community whether in business or at leisure. It is also responsible for running the Twitter and Facebook accounts, both called heathfieldabout, for community news.
