LA MIKE JAMES CONNECTION Mike James ha giocato 45 partite di EuroLeague con la maglia di Vitoria: vi arrivò nel corso della stagione 2014/15 proveniente dal Kolossos Rodi e segnò subito 11.2 punti a partita nelle Top 16. La stagione successiva, Vitoria raggiunse le Final Four con Velimir Perasovic in panchina (è appena rientrato a Vitoria per la terza volta, a sostituire Pedro Martinez). Lui ebbe 10.0 punti di media in 29 partite. Vitoria perse la semifinale contro il Fenerbahce. A fine anno, James lasciò Vitoria per trasferirsi al Panathinaikos. LA VITORIA CONNECTION Vladimir Micov con la maglia di Baskonia ha giocato la sua prima partita in EuroLeague nella stagione 2009/10. Nella stessa stagione venne poi ceduto a Cantù. Per Micov quella fu la prima esperienza all’estero. Tra i giocatori che hanno militato in entrambe le squadre figurano tra i più significativi Hugo Sconochini, Stefano Rusconi, Ioannis Bourousis e Omar Cook oltre al coach Sergio Scariolo. Nella squadra del Kirolbet milita Shavon Shields che lo scorso anno era in Italia a Trento e ha giocato la finale scudetto da protagonista contro l’Olimpia. Matt Janning ha giocato in Italia a Casale e Siena: nel 2013/14 giocò la finale scudetto contro l’Olimpia perdendola 4-3. Nel 2001 giocò la finale di EuroLeague perdendola contro la Virtus Bologna, dal 2005 al 2008 ha raggiunto le Final Four per quattro anni filati ma solo nel 2005 ha superato la semifinale, battendo il CSKA Mosca salvo cedere poi con il Maccabi. Nel 2016 è tornato a giocare una Final Four perdendo la semifinale con il Fenerbahce. Il club si è costruito una fama solida anche per la produzione, scoperta o valorizzazione di giocatori di altissimo livello, da Marcelo Nicola ad Andres Nocioni, Josè Calderon e Jorge Garbajosa fino ai casi più recenti di Luis Scola, Tiago Splitter, Pete Mickeal, Mirza Teletovic, Darius Adams, Tornike Shengelia, Mike James e Thomas Heurtel. Montenegro.- FUNDAMENTOS Señora Presidente El rotundo triunfo de nuestra selección al alcanzar el segundo puesto en el Campeonato Mundial de Básquet en China, fue el corolario de un profundo trabajo y una notoria dedicación alcanzada por nuestro equipo, que nos coloca en el podio como uno de los equipos más poderosos en este deporte de gran reconocimiento internacional. La selección argentina de básquet es una de las potencias del continente y es la única de América en conquistar la quíntuple corona a nivel selección mayor; es campeona del Mundo, campeona olímpica, campeona de la Copa de las Confederaciones de la FIBA, campeona de América y campeona panamericana, y es junto con Estados Unidos las únicas selecciones de América que ganaron tanto los Juegos Olímpicos como el Campeonato Mundial FIBA. En el año 1950 la FIBA organizó el primer Campeonato Mundial de Básquet y Argentina, siendo país sede se quedó con el título como campeón mundial. Luego ganando en cuatro campeonatos sudamericanos, nuestra selección conquista el oro en los Juegos Suramericanos en el año 1982 y también en los juegos Panamericanos del año 1995 disputados en la ciudad de Mar del Plata. A partir del año 2001 la selección argentina conquista otros títulos como el Campeonato Sudamericano de Valdivia y el Campeonato FIBA Américas disputado en Neuquén, ganados por Argentina, momento a partir del cual comienza a formarse la base de grandes jugadores de reconocimiento y jerarquía internacional.
