Mrs. Georgia Lee West Allen, 91, left this world on Thursday, April 13, 2017, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, caring sister, sister in law and aunt. She was born May 18, 1925 in Detroit Michigan, third of six children of Winnie Harp West and Herbert West who later moved to Algood, TN where she graduated from Algood High School. She met and married Albert Allen on November 24, 1943 in Ringgold, GA. They moved to the family farm off Freehill Road where they built their first home on a gifted tract of the Allen Family’s farm where they lived out their lives. There they raised four children, John, Mary Lee (Jr.) Brown, Jimmy (Joyce Davis) Allen and Jerry (Vicki Knight) Allen all of Cookeville. She is survived by her sister Mildred Simcox, sister in law Nellie West and sister in law and brother in law June and Junior Vickers and a host of nieces and nephews in the Algood, Cookeville, Knoxville, Nashville and Mt. Juliet areas. Albert and Georgia Lee were married 61 years when he passed away in 2004. Mrs. Allen is survived by six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Grandchildren include: Lori Tinch (Bryan) Colson, Cary Brown, Stephen (Amanda Reed) Allen, Ryan (Sherry Kimes) Allen, Leanne Allen, Katie (Andy) York and Mark (Leigh) Brown. Great grand children include: Colby Allen Booker, Barrett Brown, Skyler Allen, Tucker Allen, Walker Allen York, Evan Allen, Anden Ellis York, Jozie Allen, Emma Kate Brown, Braxton Allen, Lucy Allen, MJ Brown, and Ava Brown. Mrs. Allen was a devoted member of the Summerfield United Methodist Church for 74 years and sang alto for the Summerfield Quartet for many years. She and her three sons also performed in churches around the area in the 60s and early 70s. She loved to cook and her cooking won awards and acclaim. Her fried dried apple pies annually were the top auction sales item at the Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival Auction topping out last year at $325 for a Baker’s dozen. She loved her family and nothing pleased her more than having any and all of them put their feet under her kitchen table for a meal along with their friends and co- workers. When the twins started to school she went into the factory at McCord to help educate all four children. She later moved to work for Big K/Walmart and retired from Walmart after 19 years of service. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Alice Moore Netherton and brothers-in-laws Joe Moore and Vaden Netherton, sister Frances Ann Roach and brother-in- law Bruce Roach, brother L. B. West and sister in law Willie Ruth Needham West, and brother Earl West, also sister in law and brother in law Mildred and Maylon Whitefield, and brothers in law Walter Simcox and Hobert Allen. A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Allen will be held at 7p, Saturday, April 15 at Presley Funeral Home. Visitation 3p – 7p Saturday. Private family burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery at 10a on Easter morning. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Summerfield United Methodist Church. Brother Tommy Harris will officiate at the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Summerfield United Methodist Church, the Putnam County Animal Shelter, or a charity of your choice. COOKEVILLE - Funeral services for John Albert Allen Sr., 82, of Cooekville will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, from the chapel of Cooekville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Monday, July 26; and from 2 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Mr. Allen died on Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Masters Health Care Center in Algood. He was born on Feb. 20, 1922, in Putnam County to the alte Alva A. and Maude Chaffin Allen. He was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church. Mr. Allen was a life-long farmer and carpenter. He and his sons were among the first to introduce registered polled Hereford cattle to the area. His family includes his wife of 60 years, Georgia Lee West Allen; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John A. Allen Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Jimmy and Joyce Davis Allen, and Jerry and Vickie Knight Allen, all of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and Harold Brown Jr. of Baxter; seven grandchildren, Lorie Tinch-Booker, Cary and wife Allison Brown, Stephen and wife Amanda Allen, Jimmy Ryan and wife Sherry Allen, Leanne Allen, Katie and husband Andy York, and Mark Brown; four great-grandsons, Colby Allen Booker, Tucker Ryan Allen, Skylar Lance Allen and Barrett Edward Brown; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Betty June Allen and Vay Vicker Jr., and Maylon Whitefield, all of Cookeville, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hobert Allen (who was killed in the armed forces); and a sister, Mildred Allen Whitefield. COOKEVILLE – Funeral services for Odis Esco Allen, 81, of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, jan. 7, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 2-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Allen died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at his residence. He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Overton County to the late William Campbell and Ida Elizabeth Masters Allen. Mr. Allen worked for the Chrysler Corportation. He attended Knight’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he worshipped and often played the mandolin. His family includes three sons, Bill and Dennis Allen, both of MI, and Lrrry Allen of Cookeville; five grandchildren; six great-granchildren; and numerous family and friends.
