The Great Glen Way measures 79 miles (124km) from Fort William to Inverness via Invergarry. The trail includes easy, level stretches along the Caledonian Canal, undulating forest tracks, lakeside paths, old drove and military roads, and stretches over heather moorlands or through city suburbs. One of Scotland's Official long-distance routes, it is an ideal introduction to long-distance walking, with a range of facilities along the way, and is easily walked within a week.
The Great Glen is one of Scotland's most remarkable features – a ruler- straight valley along an ancient Highland fault line. The glen is threaded by the scenic Caledonian Canal, linking Loch Lochy and Loch Oich with Loch Ness. The Great Glen Way offers walkers the chance to enjoy a low-level route from coast to coast, between Fort William and Inverness, at almost any time of the year. This guidebook provides the walker with practical information, maps and clear route descriptions in both directions for every stage of the trek. A separate OS 1:25,000 mapping booklet is included.
