    This year was the first year for the 1st Annual - International Female Police Peacekeeper Award IAWP International Recognition and Scholarship Officer for 2011 Senior Lieutenant Maka Malatsidze Republic of Georgia National Police Co-Chairs Cindy Shain and Linda Mayberry and members of the IAWP International Scholarship Committee are very proud to announce the recipient of the 2011 IAWP International Scholarship, Senior Lieutenant Maka Malatsidze, Georgia National Police. The process was very competitive this year. Twenty-six applications for the award representing police women from 16 countries around the globe were submitted from a very impressive and professional group of police women. Maka Malatsidze is a four-year police officer, with the rank of Senior Lieutenant, serving in the Main Division of Tbilisi Police, the national police of the Republic of Georgia. She began her career with the police after studying Criminal Law at the University of Tbilisi. After graduating, in 2007 she joined the police and was appointed as an inspector-investigator to a local police department. During this time she attended many professional trainings and gained theoretical knowledge of particular issues involving juvenile delinquency and juvenile crime prevention. With this additional expertise, in 2009 she moved to the Main Division of Tbilisi police, division of district inspector-investigators, where she specializes in juvenile crime prevention and investigation. She and others in her division also hold lectures with students of public schools about law and civil education, explaining the terms of law and rules of behavior in the society. Malatsidze was also recently chosen to conduct training for other police officers regarding the country’s newly implemented Criminal Proceedings Code.

    HRCP/CHRI 2010 POLICE ORGANISATIONS IN PAKISTAN Human Rights Commission CHRI of Pakistan Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative working for the practical realisation of human rights in the countries of the Commonwealth Human Rights Commission of Pakistan The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is an independent, non-governmental organisation registered under the law. It is non-political and non-profit-making. Its main office is in Lahore. It started functioning in 1987. The highest organ of HRCP is the general body comprising all members. The general body meets at least once every year. Executive authority of this organisation vests in the Council elected every three years. The Council elects the organisation's office-bearers - Chairperson, a Co-Chairperson, not more than five Vice-Chairpersons, and a Treasurer. No office holder in government or a political party (at national or provincial level) can be an office bearer of HRCP. The Council meets at least twice every year. Besides monitoring human rights violations and seeking redress through public campaigns, lobbying and intervention in courts, HRCP organises seminars, workshops and fact-finding missions. It also issues monthly Jehd-i-Haq in Urdu and an annual report on the state of human rights in the country, both in English and Urdu. The HRCP Secretariat is headed by its Secretary General I. A. Rehman. The main office of the Secretariat is in Lahore and branch offices are in Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta. A Special Task Force is located in Hyderabad (Sindh) and another in Multan (Punjab), HRCP also runs a Centre for Democratic Development in Islamabad and is supported by correspondents and activists across the country.

November 21, 2009 Copyright © 2009 by Maureen Bessingpas All rights reserved. ii REFORMING PRIMARY EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN IN THE INTEREST OF U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY Maureen Bessingpas, B.A. Mentor: Joseph Smaldone, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This thesis analyzes the failures of Pakistan’s educational system and proposes concrete measures to reform it, drawing on local models that have proven successful. Specifically, it seeks to determine a link between U.S. security and a functional primary education system in the state of Pakistan. UNICEF and other global human rights institutions show that educating girls is one of the most lasting ways to increase stability, prosperity, and peace. When girls have the opportunity to obtain an education, their standard of living rises and their families have a better chance of escaping the cycle of poverty. There is a concern within the U.S. that the growing threat of terrorism is being bred among the villages in Pakistan where both education and employment opportunities are non-existent. The education system in Pakistan is unregulated, underfunded and in need of a complete overhaul. Pakistan has consistently spent less than 2% GDP on education, less than any developed nation outside of Africa. That combined with an exploding population has created an environment rich with uneducated and unemployed youth, who are currently being recruited into the anti-American insurgency known as the Taliban.

Study Muhammad Fiaz khan was conducted random sampling, during the study both male and female mosquitoes from the selected Department of Zoology, Hazara zone were collected. Species collected and identified were Anopheles stephensi, C. theileri, C. mimeticus, University, Mansehra, KPK, C. annularis, A. shortii And Aedes albopictus. We concluded from the present research, this area of the Pakistan District possess a variety fauna of mosquito. Prevention measures for controlling the growth of mosquito’s population otherwise should be taken, otherwise they will be very active in spreading the Aqsa Rehman diseases. Altogether 3150 species of mosquitoes have been reported [3] worldwide Mosquitoes are found throughout the world except in permanently frozen places . Except for Antarctica Mosquitoes are cosmopolitan found everywhere [4]. Many species are native to subtropical and tropical regions some, such as Aedes have successfully adapted to cooler regions.

Introduction In Pakistan, the National Tourism Policy and the National Conservation Strategy emphasize the crucial interdependence between tourism and the environment. Tourism has a significant impact upon the physical and social environment, while, at the same time, tourism's success depends on the continued well-being of the environment. Because the physical and social environment constitutes the resource base for tourism, tourism has a vested interest in conserving and strengthening this resource base. Hence, conserving and strengthening biodiversity can be said to hold the key to tourism's success. The interdependence between tourism and the environment is recognized worldwide. A recent survey by the Industry and Environment Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/IE) shows that the resource most essential for the growth of tourism is the environment (UNEP 1995:7). Tourism is an environmentally-sensitive industry whose growth is dependent upon the quality of the environment. Tourism growth will cease when negative environmental effects diminish the tourism experience. By providing rural communities with the skills to manage the environment, the GEF/UNDP funded project "Maintaining Biodiversity in Pakistan with Rural Community Development" (Biodiversity Project), intends to involve local communities in tourism development. The Biodiversity Project also recognizes the potential need to involve private companies in the implementation of tourism plans (PC II:9).

    PRCS HUMANITARIAN OPERATION IN SWAT DISTRICT (NWFP) Report Update No. 44 Reporting period – till 19th Sep , 2009 Conflict Situation in Bara Area of Khyber Agency leaves around 8,000 and 12,000 families displaced Out of 9 PRCS-ICRC Camps, 4 have been completely evacuated and around 5,104 families have repartriated to Swat voluntarily since inception of Nawa-e-Seher. So far with the help of Movement Partners (ICRC and IFRC) 93,2222 x Food Packs have been distributed by PRCS in areas of SWAT, FATA, Malakand, Dir, Mansehra, Haripur, Hasnabdal, Attock/Wah Cantt/Rawalpindi. The Early Recovery Assessment in 03 Union Councils of Swat has been completed by a team of PRCS. 1. Background The militancy in Swat and the operation against the militants in the area resulted in insurmountable hardships for a huge population of the area. The conflict situation resulted in huge migration of masses to down districts of the province and other parts of the country. According to Govt. reports total of 383,190 families were displaced due to the Swat conflict situation. This makes a total of 2.7 million displaced individuals. The PRCS being largest national humanitarian organization was requested by the NDMA to provide support in this humanitarian catastrophic. PRCS with support of ICRC had established some 9 x IDP Camps (including 3x previous camps) at different locations accommodating over 6,500 families (52,569 individuals) of Swat and Buner. The IDPs are being provided by the following facilities in the Camps:- • Relief • Health and Care • Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) • Psychosocial Support Programme (PSP) • Restoring Family Links (RFL) – Tracing The already enormous humanitarian needs are expected to increase as the potential for conflict in Waziristan causes further population movements and poses further problems.
