Myös ajatus sukupuolen luonnollisuutta horjuttavista kumouksellisista teoista nousee Butlerin kirjoituksista. The Knife-yhtyeen Shaking the Habitual Show esimerkkiaineistonaan tämä työ tutkii, mitä kumouksellisuus voisi olla esittävissä taiteissa ja kysyy, voiko Shaking the Habitual Show'ta ajatella esimerkkinä kumouksellisista käytännöistä. Performatiivisuuden ajatuksen soveltaminen esittäviin taiteisiin on paikoin nähty haastavana. Ongelmallisuus liittyy ennen kaikkea siihen, että taideteokselle on perinteisesti oletettu tekijä, kun taas performatiivisen -

Flyinglow – Debut Album from Sweden's New Deep Electronica Artist
Jun 09, 2017 12:17 EDT Flyinglow – Debut Album from Sweden's New Deep Electronica Artist Following the well-received single 'Clockwork' this spring, Flyinglow brings us a fresh, yet classic, deep, Scandinavian electronica sound with today’s self- titled album debut. After The Knife’s iconic Silent Shout album some ten years ago, Scandinavian electronica has become synonymous with the uplifting, pop-infused EDM sound developed by the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Kygo, but the last few years have seen an increasing number of dark and deep electronic artists come out of the region. Following the release of the single 'Clockwork', Flyinglow now releases his first album. The 7 track electronic debut is a dynamic work of electronica balancing on the thin line between slightly experimental shoegaze and pure pop aesthetic. About Flyinglow Behind the moniker, we find the Swedish Uppsala-based musician Joel Gabrielsson. Joel has a very international backgound. He grew up in Singapore, studied at the School of Movement and Performance in Finland and in 2009 relocated to Ukraine for a couple of years. It was during this time that his interest in composing music started taking a more prominent role. He was particularly interested in electro-acoustic and ambient music, and began to experiment with sounds, textures and electronics in his home studio. The following years were spent fronting the drone-pop band Toys in the Well and performing venues around Europe. After moving back to Sweden, into a small cottage in the countryside, Joel began to develop a new, solo recording project. -
Swedish Pop Mafia: How a Culturally Conservative Effort in the 1940S Backfired to Create the Greatest Engine of Pop Music in the World
Swedish Pop Mafia: How a culturally conservative effort in the 1940s backfired to create the greatest engine of pop music in the world BY WHET MOSER • March 24, 2014 • At some point over the last 15 years—sometime, say, between the 1999 release of “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys and last year’s “Roar” by Katy Perry—it became an inescapable fact that if you want to understand American pop music, you pretty much have to understand Sweden. Songwriters and producers from Stockholm have buttressed the careers of Lady Gaga, Madonna, Usher, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, Pitbull, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson, and any number of other artists you’ve probably listened to while dancing, shopping, making out, or waiting on hold over the past decade. (And it’s not just American pop music that has Scandinavian fingerprints all over it: When Azerbaijan won the Eurovision contest in a 2011 upset, they did it with a song written for them by two Swedes.) If Americans are aware of this phenomenon, it is probably because they’ve heard about the legendary Swedish producer and songwriter Max Martin. There are any number of ways to express Martin’s ubiquity, but here’s one: From 2010 to 2011, the pop idol Katy Perry spent an unprecedented 69 consecutive weeks in the Billboard top 10, surpassing the previous record-holder, the 1990s Swedish group Ace of Base, by four months. But the milestone was far more of a testament to Martin’s staying power than Perry’s: Not only did he help produce and write all but one of Perry’s record- breaking string of hits, but he began his career as a producer for Ace of Base. -

At the age of 15, Mumba was discovered in a night club by Irish svengali Louis Walsh (manager of Boyzone and Westlife). Walsh was impressed by her talent and she was signed to Polydor Records, subsequently spending several months moving between Denmark, Sweden, England and Ireland, where she co-wrote and recorded her debut album, Gotta Tell You. She eventually dropped out of school to focus on her music career, citing that it was becoming a difficult task for her to stay in school and work on her music. Mumba's first hit, Gotta Tell You, was released in 2000 and shot to the #1 spot on three Irish charts, later reaching #2 on the United Kingdom charts. She also scored American success with her debut single, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. -
