Bedfont have more than found their feet at this level following their promotion from the CCL last season and will surely look back on this first season at Step 4 with some satisfaction, not least the 4-0 drubbing they handed out to us back in December, even though playing much of the match with ten men after Perry Luckins had been sent off. Personnel very often change quite rapidly at clubs and some people may not be aware that Bedfont manager Paul Johnson played well over 300 matches for Ashford in his younger days before taking to manage- ment with Spelthorne Sports and then with Bedfont. Along with assistant Jimmy Hibburt who also played a considerable number of matches for the Tangerines, he will always be welcome at Short Lane. There is nothing of any great significance hanging on today’s game with both sides firmly in midfield with the same number of points, although Bedfont have a better goal difference by some margin. Southall have one more match to play at Short Lane next Saturday and then on Mon- day 29 April, the pitch gets dug up and the refurbishment starts. We have always had a very decent surface but things went wrong this year for various reasons and we owe it to our players to make sure we get back to that next season. After today, our final league game is away next Saturday to Bracknell Town and whilst, again, the result won’t have any huge significance, the opposite may be true for our hosts who are still fighting it out with Mar- low and Cheshunt for second place, that is unless Bracknell win today at Westfield. If they do, or both Cheshunt and Marlow lose, they will clinch second place. Any other combination will see Bracknell having to beat us next Saturday. We will obviously give it our best shot whatever the situation but following our 4-0 win over Northwood in midweek our emphasis will be on the final of the Middlesex Charity Cup on. Tuesday 7 May against Uxbridge, 3 when we will be striving to win the competition for the 4th time in our history and for the second time in three seasons. Our Ladies lost 0-2 to Leyton Orient Ladies last Wednesday in the Final of the Repos (Isthmian) Women’s Cup. Orient play at least two levels higher than us so it was a valiant effort. Our girls have two league matches to play and if they beat Godalming on Sunday 5 May, it will mean they have won the Premier Division of the Greater London Wom- en’s League and surely deserve your support. The only building on the site was refurbished to allow use as a bar and clubhouse on the ground floor and changing rooms on the upper one. Most of this work was carried out or supervised by the Chairman Dave Reader. Much work was also done to the playing area to provide playable pitches for Bedfont Sports on Saturdays and Bedfont Sunday, one of the oldest Sunday teams in Middlesex, on Sundays. To give the Club a junior section Bedfont Eagles, formed in 1978, joined the two adult Clubs a short time later. Bedfont Sports started in the Hounslow and District League for two seasons and then joined the Middlesex County Football League, this being a feeder League to Step 5. More work was needed to enable the team to play in the Premier Division of the MCFL to which they gained promotion in 2004/05. After many ups and downs promotion was finally achieved to the Combined Counties in season 2008/09. In the Combined Counties League Bedfont gained promotion to the Premier Division in season 2011/12 and have spent the past few seasons consolidating that position.Last season so all our hard work pay off when we gained promotion to the Bostik League finishing 2nd behind Westfield FC During this time the club worked hard to raise funds to upgrade our facility to one of the best in Middlesex. 8 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com In 2010 we started work on Flood Lights and a new dressing room block was built together with a 3G five a side pitch and an 11v11 3G pitch along with over 500 seats in 4 stands on all 4 sides of the ground, which now complete gives us one of the best facilities not only in Middlesex but in the south of England. Bedfont Sports is a true Community Club catering for 23 Junior Teams. a girls section, 2 Bedfont Sunday teams and our 1st Team now ply their trade at Step 4 for the 1st time in the clubs history.The Youth Section is particularly vibrant playing in the Bostik Youth League (currently Top of the Division) and having won the Middlesex County Senior Cup back in 2015.
