Good Afternoon everyone

We have only just finished with the previous round of the FA Trophy and now find ourselves in the dizzy heights of the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy in which our opponents this afternoon are Lewes FC to whom we offer a warm welcome. There is a certain poignancy for us in facing Lewes as they were our opponents for our very first Ryman League match back in the year 2000, follow- ing our promotion from the CCL to Division 3 of the Ryman League as it was then. On that day back in August 2000 an exciting tussle ensued which ended 4 -4. Both Lewes and ourselves went on to win promotion to Division 2 at the end of the season and then on to Division One South the following season as part of a re-structure. Our final clash was in the 2003-04 season when we lost at home 2-3, our goals coming from Adam Foulser and Richard Butler and we have never met since until today.

Our opponents are currently fellow members of the Bostik League but play in the Premier Division, in which they currently sit in 5th place with 21 points from their opening 12 matches. Their most recent match was in midweek when they won a local derby at Whitehawk by the only goal of the game but it is clear that we face a very tough encounter this afternoon. There is no extra time today, so if the scores are level after 90 minutes, there will be a replay at Lewes on Wednesday evening. We will look to take a coach should that happen when supporters will be welcome. After three matches in eight days, doubtless both Westfield and ourselves will be glad that we are both playing someone different today! After two close encounters in the Trophy, we finally cut loose in the League match last Saturday to win by three goals to nil, courtesy of goals from Mark Bitmead (2) and Kofi Lockhart-Adams.

We then had a hiccup on Tuesday evening when we could only draw at Han- worth Villa in the Middlesex Senior Cup, nil-nil and then lost the penalty shoot out 4-5. For much of the match it was Villa keeper Terry Buss, a thorn in our side on more than occasion, who kept us out making some remarkable saves. Doubtless, with today’s game in mind, we did not field a number of key players who will doubtless all be back this afternoon. Barring a replay of today’s match, we are at home again on Tuesday when Horley Town are our visitors in the opening round of the Surrey Senior Cup, kick-off 7.45. Ashford supporters in- tending to come to both games should save their tickets from this afternoon’s match as entrance on Tuesday evening has been reduced to just £2 so long as you can show your entry ticket from today’s. match. 3 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com

LEWES FC CLUB HISTORY The Early Years Lewes Football Club was formed fol- lowing a meeting at The Royal Oak pub on 23 September 1885. For the first eight years, the players wore light green shirts which were de- signed to reflect the scenery of the surrounding South Downs, but black and red finally became the club colours in 1893. The club has played at the Dripping Pan ever since, apart from a couple of seasons prior to the First World War when the club was banished to the ad- joining Convent Field. The early years of the club produced only mediocre results and successes were few and far between. In 1920, Lewes became found- er members of the Sussex County League. 1960s Progress was slow and despite four runners-up plac- es, by the 1960s Lewes had only one Sussex RUR Cup win to their name. In 1965, the club’s fortunes changed dramatically, winning the County League ti- tle for the first time with a massive nine-point lead over runners-up Lancing, as well as both the RUR and Sussex Senior Cups. Lewes became members of the Athenian League and after winning the Division 2 title in 1968, promotion to the Premier Division was gained just two years . 6 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com later when the Division 1 title was snatched from Boreham Wood, with a further Sussex Senior Cup tri- umph added in 1971. Six years later, the club en- tered the newly expanded . 1980s Promotion to Division 1 soon followed although two sixth-place finishes in 1982 and 1989 were the high- est positions attained in Division 1. During that time, Lewes reached the final of the Sussex Senior Cup on three occasions, and won the trophy in 1984/85. 1990s Disaster struck in 1990/91 when Lewes were relegat- ed for the first time in their history. An immediate re- turn as runners-up to Purfleet followed, but that suc- cess was short-lived and relegation in successive years meant that by the 1994/95 season the club was down in Division Three. The slide continued and the first season in the base- ment division would have been the last in the league if it hadn’t been for Cove who conveniently propped- up the league and saved Lewes from automatic de- motion. The club survived rather than thrived until the 1998/99 season when Jimmy Quinn joined as man- ager, and at the first attempt missed out on promo- tion by just one place. Midway through the 1999/2000 season Martin Elliott and a new board of Directors stepped in and immediately the fortunes of the club began to improve, with the capture of the Sussex Senior+44 (0)1784 Cup 430000 in 2001 or [email protected] following victory over Bognor Regis. . 7

Naughties (2000s) There was mixed news on the pitch. The pinnacle of the Men's team's achievement, and what a pinnacle, was to gain promotion to the top of the non-League pyramid in 2007/8. However, the Rooks only lasted one season in the top flight as the Global Credit Cri- sis hit and funds dried up. The Rooks' new economic reality saw them drop down the divisions. However, a brand new Women's team was started by Jacquie Agnew and underwent a dramatic rise form park football to the Women's Combination. A New Dawn (2010s) Behind the scenes, a group of six supporters calling themselves Rooks125 were working hard to take the club into community ownership having witnessed the serious financial problems that had befallen the club, despite the owners' best efforts. Finally on July 8th 2010, Lewes FC was officially transferred out of private ownership into a mass- ownership Community Benefit Society called Lewes Community Football Club, consisting of benefactors and members of the former Management Committee. The six members of Rooks125 formed the inaugural Executive Board, working as volunteers to install im- proved working practices and procedures during the season before planning to open up the wider owner- ship of LCFC to all the club’s supporters in 2011/12. The first chairman of the Community Club was ap- pointed in 2013 with club legend Terry Parris taking up the position. Terry was succeeded by Stuart Fuller in 2015. . 8 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com All Board positions now are elected by the whole Ownership base. On the pitch, restricted resources saw the team drop two Leagues, down to the Ryman League South (now called the Bostik League). The Women's team enjoyed a meteoric climb up to the FA Women's (South), gaining promotion from the Combination League by winning every match but one, which they drew. So where are we now? The Men's team are now brilliantly led by Darren Freeman and, after a consolidating season in the Isthmian South League are set to rise back up the ladder. The Women's team continue in the Premier League and are now pushing for promotion to the WSL2, Women's Super League. The club is building a solid foundation on which to build for the future. It has around 1,200 Owners and has gained a great reputation for all its community work and stand-out marketing. In July 2015, the club opened a state-of-the-art 3G all-weather facility adjacent to The Dripping Pan, for the whole community to use as well as all Lewes FC teams to train on. Planning permission has also been gained to build a new Community Clubhouse inside the Pan and the estimated £1.5m required is all that we need! The future is bright, the future is black & red…

DARREN FREEMAN Manager

Darren has made a big impression on Sussex football, both as a player and manager. As a player, he cut his teeth at Lewes before progressing to clubs such as Fulham, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, where he scored 12 goals in 54 appearances and infamously scored the first League goal of the mil- lennium. As a manager, he guided Whitehawk to three promotions in four sea- sons, taking the club from the County League to the Conference South. He joined Lewes midway through the 2015-16 season, after a brief spell with Peacehaven & Telscombe and won promotion back to the Bostik Premier in 2017-18. ROSS STANDEN Assistant Manager

Darren’s long-serving right-hand man, Ross was part of the management team that saw Whitehawk shoot up the leagues, as well as at Peacehaven. A UEFA-B qualified goalkeeping coach, Ross kept goal for the Rooks and several other clubs in Sussex during his playing career. TONY COADE First team coach

A highly experienced coach, Tony had a long association with Peacehaven & Telscombe where he served as a player, coach and first team manager. He joined the Rooks as part of Darren Freeman’s team in 2016. As a player, he ap- peared in Italy’s Serie-C for five years. Lewis is an experienced non-league keeper who has previ- ously proved a thorn in the Rooks’ side! He started his career at Bristol City and has also appeared between the sticks for Bromley, Eastbourne Borough and Tonbridge Angels. It was his three strong appearances for Thamesmead Town against the Rooks last season that persuaded Darren Freeman to make him his number one at the Pan. NATHAN STROOMBERG Goalkeeper

The young shot-stopper has quickly established himself as an able stand-in. Made his senior bow in the 2015/16 season opener against Leatherhead and has been part of the first team squad since. Nathan is the regular goalkeeper for the club’s Development Squad. STEVE BRINKHURST Defender

Pacey full-back who began his career with Brighton & Hove Albion, where he spent a year as a professional before leaving in the summer of 2010. During this time the popular and reliable ‘Brinky’ joined the Rooks for two impressive loan spells. He then spent two years at Eastbourne Borough, making 88 appearanc- es, before returning to his home-town club in 2012. After spells at Hastings Unit- ed and Peacehaven, he returned to the Pan again in October 2015. Was voted Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2015/16 and 2016/17. STACEY FREEMAN Defender

Former Rooks youth team player who made his Lewes debut at 18 in a Sussex Senior Cup win against Bognor Regis Town in 2011 and was a regular member of the first team squad that season. The centre half, son of manager Darren, has also appeared for Whitehawk, Worthing and Peacehaven and enjoyed a spell playing University football in the States. FRANKIE CHAPPELL Defender

The commanding centre-back spent more than ten years at Folkestone Invicta, where he is regarded as a club legend. He helped lead the club to the Bostik Premier League in 2016/17 and repeated the feat with the Rooks a year later. HARRY REED Defender The young right-back has just signed a one-year contract after graduat- ing from the club’s Academy and establishing himself as a first team squad regular. He broke into the first team squad aged just 16, during the 2016-17 season

LEON REDWOOD Defender

The versatile left-back is in his second spell at the Dripping Pan, having first arrived in 2015-16. He broke through the youth ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion, and has also played for Farnborough, Eastbourne Borough and Chelmsford among others. He rejoined midway through the 2017-18 as defensive cover, but a string of highly impressive performances led him to nail down the left-back slot on a permanent basis. LLOYD COTTON Defender/Midfielder

The tough-tackling Cotton came through the youth ranks at Burgess Hill Town and became a regular in the Hillians’ midfield for six seasons. Enjoyed similar success as club captain Peacehaven & Telscombe before the vastly experi- enced ball-winner made the switch to the Dripping Pan in October 2015. Also captained the Sussex FA Representative Squad. THOMAS DAY Defender

Dual-signed with Eastbourne Borough, Tom has made an instant impact at the Dripping Pan, scoring twice in his first five appearances for the Rooks. The 20- year-old centre-back joined the club in October 2018. OMARR LAWSON Midfielder

The energetic Lawson joined from VCD Athletic midway through the Rooks’ pro- motion push in 2017-18. The bustling midfielder has played for Canvey Island and Dulwich Hamlet among others. JAMES HAMMOND Midfielder

Hammond first broke into the Peacehaven and Telscombe side as a 16-year-old and, despite his progress stalling slightly due to illness, he established himself as a first-team regular at the Magpies. Primarily a central midfielder, the energet- ic and combative youngster also has an eye for goal and signed for the Rooks in November 2015, making his debut at Staines Town. RONNIE CONLON Midfielder

Graduate of Fulham and the Lewes FC Academy, Ronnie is a ball-playing cen- tral midfielder who quickly caught the eye of the first-team management. Showed his quality with a string of impressive performances for the Academy, U18s and Development Squad. Conlon was given his first-team debut against Harrow Borough in April 2015 and has been a regular first team squad member since.

MICHAEL DOME-BEMWIN Midfielder

Michael (often referred to as Michael Awaah) is a much-travelled midfielder, having played in the USA, Spain and Cyprus. Now back in England, he’s bringing his bustling energy to the Lewes midfield. NICO COTTON Midfielder

The young wide midfielder joined the Rooks at the start of 2017-18, after being released from Southend Utd, where he had spent three years as a professional. Cotton has sampled life in the Bostik Premier before, with loan spells at Lowes- toft. LUKE BLEWDEN Midfield/Forward

Another Rooks returnee, Blewden first appeared for Garry Wilson’s side in 2013- 14, scoring 12 goals in 25 appearances. The hard-working forward left the Pan to rejoin Tonbridge Angels, before returning to Lewes for the start of the 2018-19 campaign. DAN DARBYSHIRE Midfield/Forward

Dan is a former QPR and Chelsea youth player who signed for the Rooks in Oc- tober 2018. The tall midfielder can play out wide or in the number ten role. JONTÉ SMITH Forward

The Bermuda international rejoined the Rooks in autumn 2016, after a success- ful spell at the end of the 2015/16 season. Jonté scored ten goals in 15 appear- ances for the Rooks, before joining Welling United in the summer. He returned to the club on a month’s loan before signing a contract in the autumn. He’s also played for Crawley Town, Met Police and PS Kemi Kings in Finland. BILLY MEDLOCK Forward

One of the most feared strikers in the Isthmian League, Billy Medlock has scored goals wherever he’s played. The much-travelled striker has played at Slough, Hastings United, Burgess Hill Town and Dorking Wanderers, among others. Five goals in his first four Rooks appearances underline his goal threat. MARCUS ELLIOTT Forward

Marcus joined the club in the promotion run-in at the end of the 2017-18 season from East Grinstead Town. Elliott 15 times East Grinstead last season and con- tributed a couple of crucial goals in the Rooks’ run-in.

This week’s NLP programme column below, written by David Richardson.

For many of us today is no different to any other Saturday. The same pre-match rituals were had, the same pub visit- ed and the same turnstyle entered. But today is also the eighth instalment of Non-League Day, an initiative setup by James Doe where Non-League clubs can showcase the lower-league game to supporters of Premier League and Championship clubs, in particular. The day is always scheduled within an international break to give these fans a chance to experience some Non- League action at a club local to them. Doe initially setup NLD as a social experiment in 2010 but now it is an eagerly anticipated date that football fans look out for when the fixtures are released. Its success has stemmed from the superb backing Non- League sides have given it as well as from the ones in the top-flight, and of course the new and old supporters! In a bid to increase attendances on the day, many clubs reduce ticket prices or put on offers for Football League or Premier League season ticket holders but also organise a host of extra activities for all ages. In 2014, a crowd of 2,856 watched Dulwich Hamlet take on Hampton & Richmond while the following year 761 fans saw the Step 5 London derby between Clapton and Ilford.

. 18 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com

Premier League and Championship clubs have supported the initiative by advertising local fixtures that their support- ers can take in. It is believed the day has helped raised millions of pounds for the Non-League game and plenty for charity too. Prostate Cancer are once again NLD’s official charity part- ner and we urge you to please support their campaign if possible. Kick It Out, who have been lobbying for equality in football for 25 years, have partnered with NLD for a seventh time. Seven teams will be dedicating their fixtures to football’s equality and inclusion organisation – Worksop Town, Southport, Tamworth, Sporting Khalsa, Edgware Town, Kensington Borough and Burgess Hill Town have chosen to recognise Kick It Out’s work by organising extra activities throughout the day to encourage engagement with a di- verse range of communities. So, please embrace NLD and show off everything that we love about Non-League football. For the newcomers: welcome and thank you for supporting the day, your contributions will make all the difference to these clubs. We hope to see you again next year… or sooner!

However, new research has indicated the club was formed in 1958 as Ashford Albion and first competed in the Houns- low & District League. Albion won two consecutive promotions to reach the Premier Division of the Hounslow League and were still competing at this level when the club changed its name to Ashford Town in 1964. It was at this time that the club adopted its distinctive Tangerine & White colours. The club endured a difficult first campaign as the Town club and withdrew from the Prem- ier Division, assuming the Reserve Team's place in Division Two. Having rebuilt the club with a very young team, Ashford Town rapidly advanced through the various divisions of that League, absorbing Staines Youth Club FC. on the way. Several individuals from that era have remained with the Club and now form the backbone of the Committee, including the Vice-Chairman and Sec- retary. The Club were elected to the Surrey Intermediate League (Western) in 1967 and were promoted at the end of their first season. The Ash Trees were League Cup finalists in 1970-71 and League runners-up in 1972-73. In 1974-75, Ashford enjoyed their best season under the managership of ex-Fulham player Frank Reid, winning the League by three points from perennial contenders Merrow. Although the championship eluded the Club in following seasons, it usually fin- ished in the top four and prior to season 1982-83 an invitation was extended by Surrey County FA. to become founder members of the Surrey County Premier League. The invitation was readily accepted and Ashford played their first match in the new league on 4 September 1982, drawing 0-0 away to Farleigh Rovers. Almost from its foundation, the Club had aspirations to acquire its own ground and after one or two disappointments, this was achieved in August 1985, when a long lease was signed with Spelthorne Borough Council, enabling the Club to move to its present home at Short Lane, Stanwell. From what was nothing more than a field, the facilities were quickly developed, with the first match at Short Lane taking place in February 1986, following two postponements for snow. The Club now possesses a modern clubhouse and bar, kitchen facilities and boardroom. Floodlights were erected in September 1995, whilst the pitch is railed all round and partly walled, with standing covered accommodation, plus a purpose built 150-seater stand, built in 1998 (pictured). An additional 100 seats were installed on the opposite side of the ground to this stand in 2006, after the club won promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division. For both geographical and historical reasons, Ashford affiliate to both Middlesex and Surrey F.As and in 1989-90, their last season as an Intermediate Club, they reached the final of both Counties Premier Cup competitions, beating Farnham Town in the Surrey version but losing to Willesden Hawkeye in the Middlesex . 28 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com Ashford Town Middlesex Brief History—Continued 2 final. Runners-up spot in the League was also secured and with it the opportuni- ty to enter senior football, as members of the Combined Counties League, sen- ior status having been granted in May 1990. It was at this point that the club changed its name to Ashford Town (Middlesex) FC, to avoid confusion with the Kent club of the same name. During its ten year membership of the Combined Counties League, the Club never finished below sixth place, and after finishing 3rd and 2nd in seasons 1992-93 and 93-94, it went on to win the League Championship for four succes- sive seasons. It was a relative disappointment to only come 4th in 1998-99, even though the Club won the League Cup but a 5th championship in just six seasons was secured in 99-00, along with the Middlesex Charity Cup, the first ever senior county cup honour. With the ground up to the required standard, Ashford took their place in the Isthmian League for season 2000-2001 and by finishing in 3rd place, secured promotion to Division 2 at the first attempt. The first season in Division Two did not the Club making sufficient progress and after a series of indifferent results, long serving manager Dave Kent left the Club on 28 March. His replacement was Nathan Wharf, an ex long serving player, who stepped up from Reserve Team management. Further major improvements were made to the ground to enable the Club to be granted a B-grade and to take its place in the newly regionalised Division One of the Ryman League. A poor start saw the Club in the bottom echelons of the table but a number of new signings saw a significant improvement and a 17th place finish, which was an excellent performance after winning just one of the opening 16 league matches. Further progress was made in 2003-04 as the Club finished 12th in Div 1 South. In the close season prior to 2004-05, the pitch has been completely re- laid to include both irrigation and drainage systems, at a cost of around £50,000, mostly financed by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund. Further medium term plans include new changing accommodation adjacent to the pitch, which will allow enlargement of the present clubhouse, and a hard surface floodlit train- ing area. The Club embarked upon new adventures in season 2004-05 in the Southern League for the first time, having been transferred over as a result of the FA Re- structure. The 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup was reached for the first time and Mark Butler, renowned goal scorer in his day with Aldershot Town, Staines Town etc, was promoted from Assistant Manager to Manager following the resig- nation of Nathan Wharf in December 2004. The play-offs were reached but re- sulted in a narrow defeat at Evesham United after extra time. In 2005-06, Ashford went one better, finishing second in Division One West of the Southern League, to secure promotion to Step 3. This brought about a re- turn to the Isthmian League for season 2006-07 and saw Ashford competing at their highest ever level. The season brought consolidation with the added bonus

The Reserves also lifted a trophy, securing the Middle- sex Premier Cup. Ashford built on this success, rallying from the foot of the ta- ble in November 2007 to narrowly miss a place in the promo- tion play-offs at the end of the 2007-08 season, a campaign which saw all of the club's senior sides challenge for hon- ours. The senior side reached the Final of the Southern Combination Cup, the Reserves reached the Finals of both the Middlesex Premier and Surrey Premier Cups, while the Under 18s, led by club stalwart, Mick Snowden were champions of the Southern Youth League. The 2008-09 season saw Ashford begin the campaign in electrifying form, win- ning their opening six matches to top the table. Mark Butler's side followed this up with a fantastic FA Cup run which saw them come agonisingly close to elimi- nating Forest Green Rovers in the Fourth Qualifying Round at Short Lane. Rov- ers won the replay and went on to run Derby County close in the Third Round. Ashford endured a difficult winter, which saw them flirt with relegation, before a late resurgence saw the side safely into mid-table. The cup competi- tions added much adventure to the season, as Ashford followed up their exploits in the FA Cup with runs to the semi-finals of both the Middlesex Senior and Isth- mian League Cups and end their campaign by defeating Conference Premier outfit Woking 3-2 at Metropolitan Police to win the Surrey Senior Cup. The 2009-10 season saw Ashford make a reasonable start to the campaign, but the Ash Trees were shocked when manager Mark Butler tendered his resigna- tion on Friday 23rd October, in order to take up the Manager's role at Margate FC, who were struggling at the foot of the table. Ashford appointed former Leicester City and Bradford City midfielder Jamie Lawrence as his replacement, and the Jamaican international immediately led his new charges on a twelve- match unbeaten run. However, issues off the pitch were causing problems for the club and a number of players, including leading goal scorer Byron Harrison left for Carshalton Athletic, where Mark Butler had accepted a coaching role af- ter leaving Margate, where he had been in charge for just three months. Ash- ford found scoring a problem after Harrison left and a dreadful run of form saw them go from the fringe of the play-off zone to battling relegation. Ashford went into their final match knowing a win would almost guarantee survival, while a draw would see them finish fourth from bottom - technically a relegation place, but certain to receive a reprieve owing to the demise of various other clubs. Sadly, a heavy defeat for Ashford, coupled with wins for Carshalton and Margate saw the latter two clubs survive - Margate receiving the reprieve for fin- ishing fourth from bottom. During the summer of 2010, the club were initially placed in the Central Division of the Southern League but were then offered the chance to remain at Step

Three of the non-league pyramid. However, as this offer was as a direct replacement for defunct Southern League side Merthyr Tydfil, the decision was made that the vast increase in travelling would be too great a burden for the club and the club elected to remain in the Central Division. During this time, Bob Parker stepped down from his role as Chairman after twenty-eight years in the role. The club's home ground was renamed the Robert Parker Sta- dium in honour of Bob, who remains at the club as President. The club entered a new era in the Central Division of the Southern League with Jamie Lawrence at the helm and with a mixture of established local players and new faces but the season was a challenging one. The club played some spar- kling football at times and enjoyed an exciting run in the FA Trophy, reaching the Last 32 in the competition before losing at home to Dartford. However, League form was patchy and the club finished 16th. One bright spark was the club win- ning the Southern Combination Cup, defeating Hanworth Villa 1-0 in the Final. Jamie Lawrence resigned as Manager in June 2011 and the club immediately appointed his assistant, Paul Burgess, to take the helm after more than 21 years at the club, including 683 First Team appearances. Despite having little time to do it and few resources at his disposal, "Burgo" assembled a young and exciting team. Although any hopes of a tilt at the promotion play-offs were dashed by a dreadful run where the club failed to win at home for four months, Ashford fin- ished the season strongly, winning two Cup Finals in 48 hours. In the Middlesex Charity Cup Final, the Ash Trees were 3-0 down to Northwood after 48 minutes before substitute Kofi Lockhart-Adams scored four times to put his team ahead. the game finished 4-4, with Ashford winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2. Two days later, Ashford defeated Badshot Lea 3-1 to add the Aldershot Senior Cup to the cabinet, aided by a fine performance from Paul McCarthy, who had saved two penalties in the first Final. A memorable season was capped by the club being named winners of the Southern League Fair Play Award.

In recent times Ashford now managed by Ben Murray and ably assisted by Mark Green have been renowned for playing attractive football firstly in the Combined Counties and after the team gained promotion in the Southern League. The re- turn of the side into the Combined Counties was a result of being relegated in the 2013-14 season from the Southern League. That season despite a late run of good results after the team was invigorated by the appointment of Ben Murray the team just fell short in trying to stay up. In the 2014/15 season the team had a fantastic start to the campaign winning ten League games in succession after losing the first game at home to Cove. Despite that Ashford lost out to Molesey for the title and finished third as Cam- berley Town took second place. The exciting brand of football made Ashford very pleasing on the eye to watch but the doggedness of the Molesey side saw . 31 For all the latest club news, visit our website at www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com

In the 2015/16 season Ashford again started the season excellently and were amongst the front runners but found the red hot form of the excellent Hartley Wintney too much to take the title but due to the Champions ground grading not being of step 4 standard Ashford took the promotion place on offer to the run- ners up. This was achieved on the last game of the season as rivals Camberley Town went down 3-2 at champions Hartley Wintney. Mark Bitmead scored an impressive 42 goals in the season with Dan Fleming scoring 25 goals. Back in the Southern League Ashford started brightly in the 2016/17 season oc- cupying one of the play off places in October before a dip in form in the winter period cost Ashford and the team slid down to mid table. A strong ending to the season culminated in Ashford finishing in 9th place. The side also won the Mid- dlesex Senior Cup Final played at Hanwell Town by beating Conference South side Wealdstone by two goals to one. Alex Fisher and Dan Fleming were the scorers on the evening. Russell Canderton was outstanding on the evening making one miraculous clearance off the line. Samad Kazi caught the eye as the supporters player of the season. The current season saw Ashford win three rounds of the FA Cup before losing out to Leatherhead in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Unfortunately serious injuries to Joe Green and Mark Bitmead saw Ashford fall out the play off places again. Mark had started tremendously well in the season scoring 11 goals in the first 11 games. A poor run in the winter months saw Ashford hover in midtable but once again the side has returned to form and have currently have only lost one out of the last nine games. The return of Mitchal Gough has been instrumental in the recent good run. Alex Fisher, James Cottee, Max Webb & Jack Beadle have been impressive throughout the season.

And so to the New Season, 208/2019 looks set to be one of Transition for the club, with the sad loss of our Chairman Dave Baker during the close season the position of Chairman has been split into a joint role between Alan Constable & Nick Bailey both of whom are keen to continue the development of the club and its ever-growing Tangerine brand, on the playing front there too have been some changes with a number of the previous incumbents moving on during the close season to a higher level within the Non-League Pyramid we wish them all the well and thank them for there efforts whilst in the Tangerine colours, and now allows for the next chapter to be written and some new faces to entertain the tangerine faithful.
