Castleknock Hurling

& Football Club VOLUME 3, ISSUE 6 NEWSLETTER JUNE 2005

CASTLEKNOCK vs Naomh Mearnóg Castleknock Adult team recorded a superb victory 1-13 to 0 - 04 in the opening round of the Junior B Football Championship in Porterstown Park. Man of the match Barry Farrelly contributed 1-08 to the home team ensuring a mouth watering second round clash for Willie Brennan’s men. In a tight first half the Castleknock defence led by Paul Mulvihill dominated their men and Farrelly converted several frees earned by a fast eager forward line.

Naomh Mearnog attempted to narrow the deficit early in the second half with two well taken points. However a Martin Griffin save off the line was soon followed by a move up the park with Farrelly finishing off to the net following great work by David Leydon, Declan Reilly and Stephen Lynch. Paddy O’Brien put the result beyond Cathal Gallagher, Stephen McCabe, Alan Raftery, Martin Griffin, David Leydon, Paul Mulvihill, doubt with two fine individual efforts. An injured Gerry Ambrose Galligan, Stephen Lynch (0-1), Declan Reilly, Stephen Keoghan (0-1), Paddy Kelly played with conviction through the painbarrier but O’Brien (0-2), Gerry Kelly (0-1), Ger Byrne, Barry Farrelly (1-8), Niall Tutty. sustained a broken arm in an unfortunate clash in the second half — the only blip on a memorable evening Management: Willie Brennan, Mick Lynch, Donal Cunningham for the Castleknock supporters, selectors and team.

U-12 Girls Football Div 2 The Division 2 Under 12 girls team had their biggest challenge to date on Thursday 26th May – playing the unbeaten league leaders Ballinteer in Marley Park. In a tight competitive match, every girl on the Castleknock team gave everything to turn in the best team performance so far this season. Ballinteer are a very good team and the Castleknock full back line of Aoife Reidy, Edel Eglington and Caitríona Murphy blocked and cleared superbly all evening. The half backs were equally good with Mary Waters and Anna Cunniffe linking up astutely to break down several promising Ballinteer attacks. The forwards too turned in magnificent performances, with Nicola Fagan at half forward and full forward Orla Boyle particularly impressive. This result leaves Castleknock joint leaders of Division 2 with all to play for in the second half of the season. Castleknock 3-8 Ballinteer St. Johns 1-8 Inside this issue:
