I’ve learned that growers experienced fairly good growing conditions and that production was solid; sales have been brisk and growing as families have been buying locally and preparing meals at home; and market prices across most crops have been pretty good too. The perfect trifecta – good supply, strong demand and reasonable prices! I am so thankful that growers are experiencing success from their growing plans and hard work this season. Congratulations everyone! I should stop here, because your success is what our team is focused on and we are thrilled when we know you’ve realized Sylvan Rupp - Founder success. However, I’d like to share a few things with you about our business. This next season marks a significant milestone for Rupp Seeds as we’ll be celebrating our company’s 75th anniversary since grandpa Sylvan started the business in 1946. Our company has grown and developed from those early days of custom cleaning oats and selling corn, soybeans and wheat seed varieties developed by university breeders. When my dad Roger joined the business, he brought an entrepreneurial energy to the business and led us in developing our Rupp brand of corn, soybean and wheat varieties. His drive also led to the creation of our vegetable division and eventually to establishing our breeding department and the creation of many Rupp pumpkin, squash and gourd products that are a part of your success today. You can read more about our company history at: www.ruppseeds.com/About. It has been a year since Dad passed away and there have been many times when I’ve been reminded of the legacy he and grandpa have built with the business. Our family and employees are thankful for the opportunity we have to serve so many wonderful people. On behalf of the entire team here at Rupp Seeds, thank you for your business, and for the trust you place in us as your seed supplier. Please let us know what we can do to serve you better as we partner together to help feed the world. Sincerely, Philip Rupp President In loving memory of Roger L. GRREAT May/June 1998 Volume 8, Number 3 News Published by Golden Retriever Rescue, Education and Training, Inc. From the President Ever since I volunteered to be a GRREAT foster home a number of years ago, people Shaaron Plate have asked me questions: How can you do it? How can you bear to take a dog into your family, love it, care for it, train it, sometimes even nurse it back to health, only to go through the pain of adopting it to someone else? How can you constantly disrupt, and sometimes distress your own dogs by bringing strange canines into their pack? How do you manage your lifestyle to allow time to foster? How do you care for “special needs” dogs who are old, infirm, or have behavioral problems? I’ve heard many other people say, ‘I’d like to be able to foster rescued dogs, but I know I’d never be able to give them up to new homes.’ How would you answer the people who ask these questions? From the President, continued on page 4 Sharing the One of the nicest, most charming, highly intelligent and kindest persons I know spoke to me this morning at 6 a.m. I woke up and said “Skip, you need to write another article for Responsibility the newsletter.” I then rolled over and said “I’m absolutely right!” Modesty refrains me of Pet Ownership from saying more... Skip Nizer I lay there thinking, trying not to move so I wouldn’t wake Debbie. She wasn’t feeling good. I was even extra quiet as she got up to let the dogs out.

Our Solid Gold dry dog food called "Just a Wee Bit", for small mouths has free range bison, which are not given any hormones, are not dehorned, not castrated and are fed free range healthy grass. REGULAR CAT FOOD COMPARISON CHART ob·li·gate [adj. ob-li-geyt] car·ni·vore [noun kahr-nuh-vohr] An obligate or a true carnivore is an animal that must eat meat in order to thrive. Just like leopards, lions and tigers, your cat is an obligate carnivore and has no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates in their diet. True carnivores lack the physiology required for the efficient digestion of vegetable matter and, in fact, some carnivorous mammals eat vegetation specifically as an emetic (to induce vomiting). The domestic cat is a prime example of an obligate or true carnivore and has no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates or other vegetable matter. The excess carbs and plant products found in many leading cat foods may be the primary cause of diabetes, obesity and UTI in cats today. • CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE DIET – Dogs
CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE DIET – Dogs GOALS: *Feed moderate to high amounts of fat *Moderate amounts of HIGH QUALITY Protein *Low Phosphorus *Low Phosphorus carbohydrates to fill in *Lots of clean, fresh filtered or low mineral bottled water, juices, and broth + other liquids. CALORIES: ~1/3 Fat – Start with small amounts and gradually increase, watching for digestive upset + decreasing amount if diarrhea occurs. ( Careful with pancreatitis) ~1/3 Protein – High quality protein is key, daily protein requirement increases for dogs in CRF. As long as phosphorus is kept low you shouldn’t worry about feeding too much protein. ~1/3 Carbs – While dogs don’t have a nutritional need for carbs, you may need to feed up to 50% carbs to keep phosphorus low. HOME MADE DIET: FAT: Adds calories and energy, easy to digest for most dogs. Fatty meats, butter, whole-milk yogurt, egg yolks, coconut oil, fish (body) oil – are all good sources of saturated fat. MEATS: Use highest fat ground hamburger available, lamb is very high in fat, so is pork, dark meat chicken + turkey have more fat than white meat but poultry is still a low-fat meat so leaving skin on is preferable. Beef has less phosphorus than chicken, lamb and turkey are in between. EGGS: Yolks are high in fat but also high in phosphorus so feed in moderation. DAIRY: Whole-milk yogurt (try goat’s milk yogurt for flavor if dog doesn’t like regular whole-milk yogurt), cottage cheese, ricotta, etc. Use kinds with the most fat when fed but feed in moderation because they are high in phosphorus.
