Denton County Transportation Authority to Provide A-train Service for Heart of Dallas Bowl Free regional transit passes available for pick up December 26 through December 31

Lewisville, TX (December 23, 2013) – Mean Green fans looking to avoid game-day traffic can board the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) A-train for the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. DCTA has partnered with the University of North Texas (UNT) and City of Denton to provide free regional passes valid on DART and DCTA in advance of the Bowl game.

DCTA will run limited A-train service from Denton to DART's Trinity Mills Station, and North Texas fans can connect with DART's Green Line to travel to Fair Park with a transit pass. This is a special service that normally wouldn't run on New Year's Day, but DCTA is operating the A-train this year to support UNT and accommodate Mean Green fans going to the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Fans can pick up their free regional pass from December 26 through December 31 at DCTA’s Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC) located 604 E. Hickory and UNT’s North Texas Athletics Ticket Office located at Apogee Stadium. The free regional transit passes are not available through DART; it is a result of a partnership between DCTA, UNT and the City of Denton. There are limited regional passes available and a strict limit of one ticket per person, so each rider must pick up their transit pass in person.

If passengers don’t pick up a free regional pass in advance of the Heart of Dallas Bowl game, they can still ride the A-train and DART Green Line by purchasing a regional pass at a ticket machine on any A-train platform or through the GoPass mobile ticketing application. Passengers who already own a regional monthly or annual pass can also use it for travel to the Bowl game.

The DCTA Heart of Dallas Bowl game travel schedule is available at www.RideDCTA.net. Passengers must keep their transit pass with them for the entire day to travel to and from the Heart of Dallas Bowl game via DCTA and DART.

Before the game The A-train will depart the DDTC promptly at 8:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. DCTA recommends passengers arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to allow time for parking. Parking is limited at the DDTC, but ample parking is available at the city's public lot at Exposition and Hickory.

The A-train will stop at the Trinity Mills Station, where passengers will need to transfer to the southbound DART Green Line train. The Green Line train will arrive at the Fair Park Station at approximately 10:11 a.m. From the station, it’s just a quick walk to the .

After the game The DART Green Line train will depart the Fair Park Station at 3:11 p.m. or 30 minutes after the end of the game. With the large number of travelers expected for this game, passengers are encouraged to arrive at the Fair Park Station at least 15 minutes prior to departure to allow ample time to board the departing Green Line train.

Passengers wishing to return to Denton will again transfer at the Trinity Mills Station from the Green Line train and board the DCTA A-train, which is expected to arrive in Denton at approximately 4:42 p.m. If the game goes over the anticipated end time, DCTA will adjust the A-train schedule accordingly.
