2018 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Chardonnay Drouhin Family Estate Chardonnay Dundee Hills, OR

About: • Our Chardonnay Arthur is produced from 100% Dijon clones, grown on the Drouhin Family Estate in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. • First planted in 1990, the low yields of these vines and their early ripening ability have been a perfect match for our climate and soils. • Arthur, named for Véronique’s son, is a wine that captures the bright, crisp acidity and mineral character of the vineyard, balanced with richness and lovely length.

Winemaking: • Our 2018 Chardonnay was hand-picked into small totes, and then whole-cluster pressed. • It was partly fermented in French Oak barrels to reveal the complexity of the fruit through the slow breathing process that happens in wood. • The rest was fermented and aged in stainless steel to keep the vibrancy and fruitiness. • Véronique then blended these two portions to create a wine of a more delicate nature - Arthur. • To Véronique, it’s as if one brought together elements of a pure Chablis and an elegant Meursault.

2018 Vintage: Our exceptional run of vintages here in Oregon continues with 2018. The season started on a slightly wet and cool note leading to late bud break, but caught up quickly. After dry weather and occasional heat spikes in July and August, the end of summer brought comfortable temperatures, a little rainfall, and the perfect set up for harvest.

Véronique’s Tasting Notes: The 2018 Arthur tips its hat to an excellent, stylish 2018 vintage. Aromas of spiced pear, quince, white flowers and a touch of honey lift from the glass. The mouthfeel shows slightly more weight than the 2017 while keeping its vibrant, lithe qualities. Spiced fruit shines on the palate, balanced by a long, citrus-driven finish. Enjoy now through 2026. Santé!

James Suckling - 93 Points Very attractive, fresh, spiced white peaches and a gently citrusy thread,

leading to a palate that has rich textural presence and a spicy overlay,

across grilled white peaches. Long, complete and very drinkable already.

Winemaker Véronique Drouhin-Boss’ roots go deep into her family’s 13th century cellars under the streets of Beaune, the heart of Burgundy. With centuries of Burgundian winemaking experience flowing through her blood, Véronique has lovingly crafted every drop of wine produced at Domaine Drouhin Oregon since the first vintage in 1988.

About our Pinot Noir Our 1988 Classique Pinot Noir was the first wine produced by the Drouhin Family in Oregon. Over two decades later, this cuvée has become a foundational element of many great wine lists and personal cellars. The fruit is harvested entirely from our family’s Dundee Hills estate, and the wine is vinified in the Drouhin family style with a focus on elegance, balance and finesse. Winemaking • Our Pinot Noir is handpicked into 25-pound totes, then hand sorted and de-stemmed at our four level gravity flow winery. • Fermentations are long and careful and by November, all of our Pinot is safely in barrel. • Our barrels are custom made in Burgundy, using oak from France’s best forests, allowing the character of the soil and vintage to show through. The Vintage 2017 began with record snow and rain. As a result, bud break didn’t begin until the third week of April and spring itself was cool and wet. Summer temperatures were largely warm, which led to vigorous crop thinning. By late August, moderate weather allowed the fruit maturation to slow and the remaining clusters ripened at a more balanced rate. Finally, by the middle of September temperatures were perfect. Over the course of nearly three weeks, we were able to harvest individual parcels at optimal ripeness. Though something of a rollercoaster, in the end 2017 gave us beautifully balanced fruit with delightful flavors, elegant tannins and lovely length.

Véronique’s Tasting Notes Our 2017 Dundee Hills offers a fragrant nose of bright black cherries, berry bramble, orange peel, golden brown spices and a touch of sweet oak. Layered behind are notes of red berries and rhubarb. Flavors of red plum, boysenberry and cassis mingle with a savory trio of white pepper, forest floor and sassafras. Elusive and elegant, this wine is wonderful now but I think will be in a perfect place with 5 – 12 years of cellaring.

James Suckling - 94 Points This is so delicious with very vibrant red cherries and a wealth of fresh red flowers and a reticent, spicy edge. The palate has a succulent, pure and very neatly defined feel with a long, chiseled core of fresh red cherries. So pure. Drink now.
