SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

The Holy Spirit transforms us Leaven is another powerful agent of change. A lump of dough left to itself remains just what it is, a lump of dough. But when the leaven is added to it, a transformation takes place which produces rich and wholesome bread when heated - the staple of life for humans. The kingdom of God produces a transformation in those who receive the new life which Jesus Christ offers. When we yield to Jesus Christ, our lives are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. says, "“We have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). Do you believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?

Good and evil are sown in our hearts like tiny seeds which germinate, and in due time yield a harvest of good or bad fruit. Charles Read said: "Sow an act and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny." In the day of judgment each will reap what he or she has sown in this life. Those who sow good will shine in the kingdom of their Father. They will radiate with the beauty, joy, and fullness of God's love. Do you allow the love of Christ to rule in your heart and in your actions?

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, when we gather for mass, “It is the whole community, the Body of Christ united with its Head, that celebrates”. (# 1140). But good liturgy doesn’t just “happen”, it takes many people to create a joyful and reverent celebraon, from the ushers who greet us at the doors, to the music and projecon ministry, to the altar servers assisng the priest, to the readers proclaiming the Word, to the Eucharisc Ministers distribung Holy Communion to the sacristans who work behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. Right now, we are in parcular need of projecon operators, altar servers and sacristans. Projecon operators: everything one needs to project the mass is already in the computer T it’s a maer of clicking on the appropriate slide as you follow along. Altar servers: we all see what they do as part of the entrance procession and recessional, seng the altar and assisng the priest. Sacristans: ensure that all the ministers are present for their assigned role, that the books are set and the vessels are cleaned properly following the mass. Training is provided for all of these ministries. If you’re not ready to make a commitment, you can shadow someone already serving. We have a large number of funerals here at St. Thomas, and it is a privilege that families choose our parish for this special celebraon of life for their loved one. But again, we parcularly need ushers, projecon operators, altar servers and sacristans. Once trained, ministers are not rounely scheduled but contacted to see if they are available at a parcular date and me. If not, we ask the next minister on the list. If you have a family member already serving at a parcular mass, think about joining a ministry as well. If you already serve in one ministry, think about being trained to help in another (e.g. maybe you are a Eucharisc Minister but would serve well as a sacristan at least occasionally). Please pray about this and see if God is indeed calling you to play an addional role when we gather for our celebraon of the mass. If interested or if you have any quesons, please contact Liz Sheridan at ext. 129. “I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am;” I said; “send me!” 6:8
