A member of The Texas State University System 4 Commencement Address Mr. Powers Boothe Emmy-winning Actor and a Texas State Distinguished Alumnus Saturday, May 15, 2010, 10:00 a.m. Powers Boothe graduated Texas State in 1970 and is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He received his MFA from Southern Methodist University in 1972. Some of Mr. Boothe’s Film credits include: Sin City, Tombstone, Final Season, U-Turn, Frailty, Navy Diver, Blue Sky, Men of Honor, Sudden Death, Rapid Fire, Extreme Prejudice, The Emerald Forest, Red Dawnand Southern Comfort. He can be seen this May in the movie MacGruber. Powers received an Emmy award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Reverend Jim Jones in the television movie Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. Other television movies include True Women, Dalva, Joan of Arc, Attilla the Hun. His television series include 24, Deadwood, and Phillip Marlowe, Private Eye. Mr. Boothe’s theater work include resident actor at Oregon Shakespeare, Richard III, at Lincoln Center, Lone Star on Broadway, American Shakespeare Theater, Stratford, Connecticut. His voice-over work includes Acura, video games Area 51, Turok, and cartoons Justice League and Superman: Brainiac Attacks. Powers was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 2009, is the recipient of the “Golden Boot Award”, and has a star on the Western Walk of Fame in Santa Clarita, California. Born and raised in Snyder, Texas, Boothe currently resides in Los Angeles. Two years later, the college awarded its first master’s degrees. Today, the Graduate College of Texas State University-San Marcos is proud to offer nearly 100 master’s and doctoral programs in various disciplines. Our nationally recognized graduate programs draw ap- plicants from across the country and around the globe. Our faculty are renowned teachers and active researchers.
