WITH THIS WEEK’S issue, Javelina Highlights begins its 15th year of publication. The tabloid is published weekly by the Kingsville Publishing Co. and distributed in the Kingsville Recor d. It is posted on the Javelina athletic website. Its purpose is to keep the thousands and thousands of Javelina alumni, fans and friends informed as to the outstanding accomplishments of the program’s athletes, coaches, teams and alumni. It also provides information on the Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division II, of which the Javelina teams are affiliated. The first issue of the Highlights the press the first weekend of August in 2000.

THE LONE STAR Conference held its annual football media day last week at the Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton. For the first time, this year’s conference was for football only. Volleyball and cross country have been included in the past. The preseason football poll was released along with the preseason top individuals and the best sportscaster and sportswriter for 2013-14 were honored. These were selected by the LSC coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.
