Chapter 1 David Told of ’s Death v. 1 David was freshly returned from defeating the Amalekites. v. 2 An Amalekite came to David with news of Saul’s death. v. 10 The Amalekite took credit for killing Saul. v. 14 - 16 King David had him executed for killing the Lord’s anointed King. v. 17 - 27 David’s “Lamentation of the Bow” for Saul and Jonathan.

Chapter 2 David is Anointed King of Judah. v. 4 The men of Judah anointed David as their King. v. 8 (Saul’s first cousin) proclaims Saul’s son Ishbosheth King over Israel. v. 14 Abner and play chicken to the death. v. 18 The three sons of Zerulah, David’s sister, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. v. 19 - 32 Abner killed Asahel.

Chapter 3 Saul’s Former General Abner and King David. v. 1 War Between The House of Saul and the House of David v. 2 Many of David’s sons are born in Hebron v. 6 - 11 Abner and Ishbosheth fall out with each other. v. 12 - 25 Abner makes peace with King David. v. 30 Joab and Abishai killed Abner in revenge for killing their brother. v. 31 - 39 King David disavowed any responsibility for Abner’s death.

1 Ch 3:5 And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua

David's Mighty Men, Bathsheba and Ahithopel 2 Sa 23:24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty;

2 Sa 23:34 Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,..2Sa 23:39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.

2 Sa 11:3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

2 Sa 15:12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom. Chapter 4 Ishbosheth is Murdered.

Chapter 5 David Anointed King of United Israel v. 1 - 4 Five years later, the Elders came and anointed David as King of Israel. v. 7 David conquered Jerusalem and made it his capital city. v. 18 - 21 David and the Lord defeated the Philistines. v. 22 - 25 David and the Lord subdued the Philistines.

Chapter 6 The Arc of the Covenant is Brought to Jerusalem.

Chapter 7 The Davidic Covenant v. 1 -3 David desired to build Yahweh a house. v. 4 - 11 Yahweh responded by promising to build David’s house. v. 12 - 17 The Covenant and God’s Promises go to David. v. 17 The “Word” came to Nathan in a vision. v. 18 - 29 David’s humble, grateful response.
