Certainly the Jews – “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” But what about the Canaanite Woman whose daughter was tormented by a demon? Who would be admitted to his Holy Mountain? This questioned what was debated by the prophets. Isaiah tells us that salvation is possible for those who keep the Sabbath and hold fast to the covenant. Indeed foreigners could join themselves to the Lord. As the Canaanite Woman approaches Jesus she does so in the form of prayer… “Lord, Son of David”, but Jesus doesn’t answer her at all.” As she persists, Jesus responds that, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” She was on the outside looking in.
