Led scientific efforts to evaluate new and existing Raydon training technologies, advised on the design of instruction systems, oversaw development of assessment and feedback systems to determine learning outcomes, and conducted research on the transfer-of- training effectiveness for current and advanced training technologies.

Chief Scientist and Director of Human Factors Research, National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS), The University of Iowa, 4/1998-6/2006. Responsible for research vision and securing of external funds for driving research using simulators and on-the-road vehicles. Oversaw all planning, development, and conduct of human-centered research, experimental support, and safety. Secured and managed several large research grants and contracts. Published and presented research findings, many to federal regulatory agencies. Consulted and advised on issues of simulator- based training, validation, simulator sickness, assessment, and responsible conduct of driving study research. Served as the Iowa representative on the NADS Man-Rating Review Board (MRRB) that included establishing safety baselines and usage policies for exposing human participants to simulator platforms at the NADS. Hired, terminated, and managed all human-centered research personnel.
