Colorado Notes

HEAVY ROTATION- As Colorado continues its final series of the regular season, a look back at the roster shows that the Eagles have already utilized 44 different players this season, more than any other team in the Pacific Division. That includes 24 different forwards, 14 defensemen and six different goaltenders. This comes as rookie goaltender Justus Annunen and rookie defenseman Wyatt McLeod also stand poised to make their debuts in an Eagles sweater during this three-game set against San Diego.

HAT IN HAND- Eagles forward Mike Vecchione netted three goals, including the game- winner, in Colorado’s 7-5 win over the Ontario Reign on Sunday. It was the first Eagles hat trick since former Colorado forward, and current San Diego Gull, Andrew Agozzino scored three times against the on February 27, 2019. Vecchione, who led San Antonio last season with 21 goals, has now posted nine points in 16 games with the Eagles and now has goals in three of his last five contests.

FIRST TIMER- Rookie defenseman Justin Barron scored his first professional goal at Ontario on Sunday, tying the game at 5-5 in a contest that the Eagles would go on to win, 7-5. Barron, who was selected 25th overall by the in the 2020 NHL Draft, now has notched three points in the first five games of his young career. The 19-year-old recently concluded a four-year career with the of the QMJHL, where he collected 112 points in 186 games.

CHART TOPPER- Colorado’s 7-5 victory over Ontario on Sunday saw the Eagles reach new heights in several different categories. Not only were Colorado’s seven goals the most that the team has scored this season, but the four goals tallied in the third period tied the team’s highwater mark for goals in a single period. In addition, forward Mike Vecchione earned the team’s first hat trick in over two years, while fellow forward Ryan Wagner finished the afternoon at a season-best +4 rating.

WELCOME ABOARD- Rookie defenseman Wyatt McLeod was signed by the Eagles to an amateur tryout agreement on Tuesday. The 21-year-old blueliner has played in three games this season with the ECHL’s Grizzlies after wrapping up a five-year career with the and of the WHL.
