The emblems, symbols and special dress of a traditional commencement include robes, hoods, stoles, caps, tassels, cords and medals worn by Aims Community College students, faculty, staff and administration. Aims students traditionally wear black robes and caps with black tassels. Faculty, staff and administrators may also wear hoods over their robes. Hood colors identify the college from which the individual graduated, the graduate degree they earned and the area of study emphasis. Examples of hood colors include: Apricot – Nursing Brown – Art, Music, Theatre Citron – Social Work Crimson – Communications Drab – Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration Gold – Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics Lemon – Library Science Light Blue – Education Maize – Agriculture Orange – Engineering Royal Blue – Aims Community College Trustees THE COLLEGE MACE Sage Green – Health Sciences Salmon Pink – Public Health White – English, Languages, Philosophy The ceremonial mace has been the symbol of college scholarship and integrity since the 11th century.
