    New Orleans Zephyrs AAA Affiliate of the Washington Nationals Zephyrs Induct First Class of Greater New Orleans Professional Baseball Hall of Fame January 28, 2005 - On Thursday night at the 3rd Annual Evening With the Zephyrs, the team inducted the first-ever class of the Greater New Orleans Professional Baseball Hall of Fame. On Thursday night at the 3rd Annual Evening With the Zephyrs, the team inducted the first-ever class of the Greater New Orleans Professional Baseball Hall of Fame. The inaugural class includes the following New Orleans baseball figures: Mel Ott, Larry Gilbert, Henry “Zeke” Bonura, Alexander Julius Heinemann and Mel Parnell (left), the only surviving member of the class who was in attendance to accept his induction. Representatives of the families of the other inductees were on hand to accept their inductions. At the dinner, a gathering of roughly 200 fans was addressed by Zephyrs General Manager Mike Schline, Zephyrs Owner Don Beaver, Washington Nationals Director of Player Development Adam Wogan, new Zephyrs coaches Mike Hart and Charlie Corbell, minority owner/VP Walter Leger and baseball historian S. Derby Gisclair, who performed the induction ceremony. The evening also included an autograph session with Parnell, former Zephyrs reliever Kirk Bullinger and former LSU Tiger and potential 2005 Zephyr Roy Corcoran. Mel Ott (1909-1958) was born in Gretna, Louisiana, and spent 22 seasons in the major leagues, all with the New York Giants. Ott led the National League in home runs in 1932, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1942 – hitting 30 or more home runs in a season eight times.

    About the Metro New Orleans Area Baseball Players Database Database Version Version Release Date V17.0 12/22/2016 Criteria for including players in the Metro New Orleans Area Baseball Players database Players in this database attended a New Orleans area high school (including Orleans Parish, Jefferson Parish, River Parishes, North Shore) and later played college baseball, were drafted professionally, played in the Minor Leagues, or played in the Major Leagues. Players who were born in the New Orleans area, but did not play high school there, are not included. Players at New Orleans area colleges are not included unless they also played high school baseball in New Orleans area high schools. Database Maintenance The source of player's Major League, Minor League and Professional Draft information is Baseball-Reference.com. College media guides are generally used to provide player's birthplace, high school, birthdate, and years played at college. This database is an ongoing work-in-progress project. It is acknowledged that it is not complete or free of error at any point in time. At the beginning of this document is a list of the players who were added or deleted in this version. The total number of players in this version is 1,354. This version focuses primarily on the addition of players who were input by various readers during the second half of 2016.
