  • AIDA Cruises Will Resume Cruise Operations with Fall and Winter Voyages
AIDA Cruises Will Resume Cruise Operations with Fall and Winter Voyages Germany's leading cruise line will begin Canary Island cruises in November, Western Mediterranean and Orient cruises in mid-December and extends pause until November ROSTOCK, Germany, Aug. 28, 2020 -- AIDA Cruises, the leading cruise line in Germany and a part of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), today announced that it will offer cruises this fall and winter that combine the fascination of a cruise trip with an unforgettable holiday experience to several popular destinations. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the conditions are currently not in place in Germany's neighbouring European countries, especially in the north with Norway and Denmark or the Baltic states. For many distant destinations outside of Europe, the Federal Republic of Germany has issued a travel warning or the respective countries have prohibited calls of cruise ships until 2021. As a result, the company has cancelled its previously announced cruises for September and has updated its fall and winter 2020-2021 program to provide its guests and sales partners additional time to plan and book vacations for a safe and enjoyable return to cruise holidays. As the first ship from the AIDA fleet to begin sailing, AIDAmar will set course on Nov. 1, 2020, for seven-day voyages to the Canary Islands, a popular destination with German vacationers. AIDAperla will follow on Nov. 7, 2020, and will take over the travel program originally planned for AIDAnova. AIDAmar's voyages will start and end in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. For voyages with AIDAperla, in addition to Las Palmas, AIDA Cruises will offer a second departure port with Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Press Release The first AIDA ship of the cruise season docks in Hamburg on Saturday With 74 arrivals, AIDA Cruises is the Hanseatic city’s most important cruise partner On Saturday, February 27, 2016, the first cruise ship of the season – AIDAmar from AIDA Cruises – arrives in Hamburg. Coming from Le Havre, the ship will dock at the Steinwerder Cruise Center at 8 a.m. AIDAmar spent the winter in the Caribbean. The captain of the 253-meter long and 28-meter wide ship is Jörg Miklitza. He will steer AIDAmar back out of the port of Hamburg by 6 p.m. already and set its course on Southampton, Le Havre, Zeebrugge and Amsterdam. With its 74 arrivals, the AIDA season 2016 in Hamburg will be the strongest ever in the company’s history. Between the first arrival on February 27 and the last arrival on December 31, 2016, a total of six AIDA ships will travel to the metropolitan center on the Elbe. These numbers underscore the strong position of AIDA Cruises in Hamburg and the extraordinary economic significance of the company for the Hanseatic city. As of April 30, 2016, AIDAprima will start taking one-week round trips throughout the year to great Western European cities and will be the most frequent guest with 36 arrivals. No other cruise ship has ever visited the Hanseatic city as often in one year. AIDAprima is the first cruise ship with a shore power connection, a comprehensive system for exhaust gas aftertreatment, and a dual fuel engine. This can also be operated directly with LNG, depending on availability.

The Multi-Purpose Bottom Plug for the Galataport Project Salvatore Miranda, Technical Manager, TREVI Turkey, Istanbul (Turkey); email: [email protected] ABSTRACT: The paper describes an innovative geotechnical engineering solution that was provided by TREVI for the renovation project at Galataport in Istanbul, Turkey. Among other interesting geotechnical works included in the project, this paper also presents the design considerations and construction of the multi-purpose bottom plug (MPBP). This original geotechnical engineering solution was employed for a three-basement excavation in Karaköy and consists of a combination of seepage control, ground improvement, and load bearing elements, which were executed with double-fluid jet grouting, pseudo-elliptical jet grouting, and permanent micropiles, respectively. The paper describes each step of the design, execution, and the preliminary and final testing phases. Moreover, it highlights the importance of employing cutting-edge technologies used in deep foundation geo-construction and state-of-the-art electronic control devices, along with expertise, to obtain the desired results for this high-profile project. KEYWORDS: Ground improvement, Elliptical Jet Grouting, Bottom Plug, Liquefaction, Seepage Control, Micropiles. SITE LOCATION: Geo-Database INTRODUCTION The Port of Galata (or Galataport) is a passenger terminal for cruise liners, situated in the Karaköy neighbourhood of the Beyoğlu district in Istanbul, Turkey. • Aerial Photographs As Evidence and Record in Istanbul
ITU A|Z • Vol 16 No 2 • July 2019 • 91-103 Towards a critical delineation of waterfront: Aerial photographs as evidence and record in Istanbul Gökçen ERKILIÇ1 , Ipek AKPINAR2 1 [email protected] • Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, İstanbul Technical University, İstanbul, Turkey 2 [email protected] • Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, İstanbul Technical University, İstanbul, Turkey Received: December 2018 • Final Acceptance: May 2019 Abstract This paper develops a conceptual agenda and a critical cartographic methodology using aerial photographs to monitor the shaping of waterfront as a geography in Istanbul by humans. Starting from the first aerial photographs of Istanbul until present, the gaze of the vertical dimension in geographical space holds divergent evidences of spatial transformation captured in aerial views. From construction sites to building of coastal roads, demolishing of port scapes and technological rifts of logistic flows, to large infills in longshore space; events and moments of spatial deformation of coastal space become visible and evident through aerial photography. Aerial gaze, when considered within an archeology of a developing military reconnaissance technology, is presented as an ironic tool to shed light to evidences and historical record of spatial transformation within an act of witnessing. Viewing coastal unfixity through aerial photographs are argued here to provide two different temporalities: longue and court dureé which operate in the eventual and geological time. As these photographs unveil, the material - geological body of the waterfront itself becomes the bearer of historical records of human and nonhuman relations that shape the coastal geography. The ground beneath is unfixed as it is pulled into a cartographic questioning tool of “critical delineation” of Istanbul’s waterfront.

  • AIDA Cruises Presents Latest Sustainability Report: World's First LNG-Operated Cruise Ship, Aidanova, Commissioned in 2018
AIDA Cruises presents latest sustainability report: World's first LNG-operated cruise ship, AIDAnova, commissioned in 2018 July 12, 2019 In the latest edition of “AIDA cares” the company documents further progress on its way to emission-neutral cruising. As early as 2023, 94 percent of all AIDA guests will be sailing on ships that can be fully operated with low-emission liquefied natural gas or, in port, with green shore power. After ten years of research and development, AIDA Cruises achieved a technological quantum leap with the commissioning of AIDAnova on December 12, 2018, putting the world’s first cruise ship that is fully operated by low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) into service. By 2023 two more of these innovative ships will take to the oceans. The company is also retrofitting the ships in the existing fleet on an ongoing basis with state-of-the-art green technology. The use of LNG, shore power from renewable energy sources, the use of modern exhaust gas cleaning systems, the reduction or complete elimination of plastic and disposable products, and the avoidance of food waste on board are key issues that AIDA Cruises is tackling. “As Germany’s market leader for cruises, we accept the ecological and social challenges that we face both now and in the future, and we are taking responsibility. Today we are already exploring together with our partners the use of fuel cells, batteries or liquefied gas from renewable sources in the cruise industry. We are committed to both the Paris climate targets and those of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
