“I care for...Počitelj” 12 – 20 July This medieval unique settlement, listed for UNESCO heritage site, is situated in the valley of the River, twentyfive kilometers from , on the route to the Adriatic Sea. In the 1960s it begins to grow as an artist center, promoted also by the famous writer Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić. Počitelj, with its jumble of medieval stone buildings, ancient tower overlooking the river and its proximity to the seaside, gave to artists and will give to You a quiet and scenic place to work and stay. In the year 2000 the Federation of Bosnia and Government initiated the Programme of the permanent protection of Počitelj. It includes the protection of cultural heritage from deterioration, restoration of damaged and destroyed buildings, encouraging the return of the refugees and displaced persons to their homes and the long-term protection and revitalization of the Počitelj's historic urban area. The Programm is on-going. But lot of maintenance services in the public spaces and along the stone trials of the old town need volunteer action of its few inhabitants.

Camp Structure and Activities The provided activities are about: 1. “Active citizenship” actions: working activities 2. Other events: public conference – sightseeing of surroundings

1. Active citizenship actions - working activities - cleaning the environment of old fortress (citadel) and the public spaces, in the old town of Počitelj, from pruning bushes, weeds, garbage

2. Other events -round-table with representatives of National Commission of for UNESCO which will present their activities and discussion about Agenda 21 for culture -mapping of local cultural and natural values -Sightseeings of: Mostar Žitomislić Monastery Kravica Lake/Waterfalls (, and Boljuni necropolis, Badanj Cave) Gabela

Accomodation Participants will have accommodation in the central artist's Kolonja where it will be the camp-base; in the house there are several rooms, with 2 or more beds, and shared bathrooms. The meals will be prepared with the involvement of participants/volunteers - except certain days determined for trips..

Costs The camp is co-funded through contributes of volunteers to cover the costs of accommodation in Počitelj and food, local transport, organizational costs and insurance and it is fixed at 250,00 € per participant.

Documents Identification card or passport is only required to enter into Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina - for citizens of EU or non-EU Countries. Sightseeing and visit of local natural and cultural values Mostar Is situated on the Neretva river and is the fifth-largest city in the country. Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (natively:mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the (Old Bridge) over Neretva river. The Old Bridge is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks: 28 meters long and 20 meters high. The famous traveler Evliya Celebi wrote in the 17th century that:the bridge is like a rainbow arch soaring up to the skies, extending from one cliff to the other. ...I, a poor and miserable slave of Allah, have passed through 16 countries, but I have never seen such a high photo: Alberto Sartori bridge. It is thrown from rock to rock as high as the sky. Blagaj It is a village-town (kasaba) in the south-eastern region of the Mostar basin. Blagaj stands at the edge of Bišće plain and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina.The natural and architectural ensemble of Blagaj is on the Tentative list to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage. It is situated at the source of the river (the largest source in Europe), where there is also historical tekke (tekija or monastery). Tekija in Blagaj was built around 1520, with elements of and Mediterranean style and is considered a photo: Margherita Squarcina national monument. The Žitomislić Monastery is located 20 kilometers from Mostar. It is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Mother of God. The monastery was built in the early fifteenth century. During the Turkish occupation, the monastery was one of the most important cultural centers in Herzegovina. The monastery and its brotherhood suffered badly many times throughout history.

Kravice is a large waterfall located on a river Trebižat. Its height is about 25 meters and the radius of the lake in the base of the waterfall is 120 meters. It is very useful for people of this region especially during the summer season.

Kravice – photo: Donatella Carlovich Stolac: on the territory of the municipality Stolac there are so much important historical values that the natural and architectural ensemble of Stolac is listed to be declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site:

Daorson: ( Δαορσών) was the capital of a Hellenistic Illyrian tribe called the Daorsi (Ancient Greek Δαόριζοι, Δαούρσιοι). It was built over a prehistoric fortified settlement which started from the early Bronze Age (17th century b.C.) until the end Bronze Age (9th-8thcentury b.C.). The Daorsi lived in the valley of the Neretva Daorson – photo: Tiziano Pizzamiglio River between 300 BC and 50 BC. The remainants of Daorson can be found at Ošanići, few km from Stolac.

Radimlja: almost three medieval necropolis are present in the surroundings of Stolac; the largest is named Radimlja, but we will visit also Boljuni. These kind of tombstones, called “stećci” are almost the only concrete trace of the Bogomils – Bosnian old christian church.

Mogorjelo is Roman “villa rustica” that dates from the early fourth century. It is situated on a hill above the Neretva River, 5 km south of Čapljina, near the road to Gabela. During the Middle Ages, Gabela was an important commercial town on the border between Herzegovina and Dalmatia, for trade between the kings of Bosnia Kings and ; it was occupied by the Turks in the XVI c. and by Venetians at the end of XVII c....
