As a result, three tectonic phases were discriminated. Siluro– Devonian sandstone samples contain many syn-sedimentary zircons and 36.5‒48.0% of Precambrian zircons scattering between 700 Ma and 3,000 Ma, suggesting that they were deposited along an active continental margin of East Gondwana. Permian–Early Jurassic sandstone samples contain virtually no Precambrian zircons, suggesting that they were deposited along the active margin of an oceanic island arc. Middle Jurassic–Early Cretaceous sandstone samples contain many 300‒170 Ma zircons and up to 28% of Paleoproterozoic (around 1,850 Ma) zircons but no Neoproterozoic zircons. Moreover, the zircons during the magmatic hiatus in Korea (158‒110 Ma) were detected only in one Lower Cretaceous sandstone sample. The age distribution suggests that the Paleoproterozoic zircons in the Middle Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous sandstone of the SKB were most likely supplied from a Paleoproterozoic orogen in the North China Block. Thus, the South Kitakami Paleoland, which accumulated the continuous succession of the SKB was born along a margin of Gondwana in the Silurian–Devonian, rifted from the continent and drifted in the Tethys ocean as an oceanic island arc in the Permian–Early Jurassic, and finally amalgamated along an active continental margin where detrital zircons of the North China Block were supplied in the Middle Jurassic. A major crustal fault separates the southern Tibetan sedimentary successions into a Southern Zone and a Northern Zone. The Upper JurassiceLower Cretaceous strata of the Southern Zone are subdivided into the Menkadun Formation (Oxfordian, Kimmeridgian, up to lower Upper Tithonian), the Gucuo Formation (Upper Tithonian to Lower Albian) and the overlying Dongshan Formation (Upper Albian). The Gucuo Formation is further subdivided into a quartz arenite unit, which is overlain by a shale unit, in turn overlain by a volcaniclastic sandstone unit. The youngest cluster of detrital zircon absolute age data (127.7 Æ 1.8 Ma) from the lower part of the volcaniclastic unit of the Gucuo Formation place the volcanic event before the Late Barremian. In the Northern Zone, the Upper JurassiceLower Cretaceous strata have been subdivided into four formations: the Zhera Formation (Upper Jurassic), the Weimei Formation (Tithonian), the Rilang Formation (?Berriasian) and the Gyabula Formation (? post-Valanginian).

ACT A PAL A EON T 0 L ,0 GI CAP 0 LON ICA Vol. 21 1976 No 4 WOJCIECH BROCHWICZ-LEWINSKI & ZDZISLAW ROZAK OXFORDIAN IDOCERATIDS (AMMONOIDEA) AND THEIR RELATION TO PERISPHINCTES PROPER Abstract. - An attempt is made to reconstruct the evolution of idoceratids (Pe risphinctidae) during the Oxfordian. The subgenus Nebrodites (Passendorjeria) is supposed to be the ancestor of N. (Mesosimoceras), whilst N. (Enayites) subgen. n. of N. (Nebrodites) and possibly of Idoceras planula group. Both genera appear to be of European origin. Differentiation of Mediterranean and Submediterran.ean peris phinctidae appears questionable. INTRODUCTION In 1973 one of the co-authors (W. Brochwicz-Lewiilski, 1973) proposed a new subgenus Nebrodites (Passendorferia) for Middle Oxfordian forms interpreted as descendants of Mediterranean Kranaosphinctes cyrilli-me thodii group and ancestors of Nebrodites proper; the Idoceras planula group was assumed to be an off-shoot of the evolutionary line. Subsequent collecting gave several Passendorferia and Passendorferia-like forms from the Oxfordian of Poland, Switzerland (Gygi, pers. inf.), Spain (Sequeiros, 1974) and Bulgaria (Sapunov, in press). Moreover, ancestral forms of the Idoceras planula group were reported from the Bimammatum Zone of the F. R. G. (Nitzopoulos, 1974). These finds made it possible to draw some conclusions concerning the h~tory of these Mediterranean perisphinctids and their relationship to the Submediterranean ones. The material described comprises forms from authors' G. KU'lesza (Br, Kl) and Dr. J. Liszkowski's (L) collections housed at the Warsaw University as well as others from the Geological Museum of Sofia Univer sity (Bulgaria) and Geological Museum of the Polish Academy of Sciences at Cracow.

  • Remarks on the Tithonian–Berriasian Ammonite Biostratigraphy of West Central Argentina
Volumina Jurassica, 2015, Xiii (2): 23–52 DOI: 10.5604/17313708 .1185692 Remarks on the Tithonian–Berriasian ammonite biostratigraphy of west central Argentina Alberto C. RICCARDI 1 Key words: Tithonian–Berriasian, ammonites, west central Argentina, calpionellids, nannofossils, radiolarians, geochronology. Abstract. Status and correlation of Andean ammonite biozones are reviewed. Available calpionellid, nannofossil, and radiolarian data, as well as radioisotopic ages, are also considered, especially when directly related to ammonite zones. There is no attempt to deal with the definition of the Jurassic–Cretaceous limit. Correlation of the V. mendozanum Zone with the Semiforme Zone is ratified, but it is open to question if its lower part should be correlated with the upper part of the Darwini Zone. The Pseudolissoceras zitteli Zone is characterized by an assemblage also recorded from Mexico, Cuba and the Betic Ranges of Spain, indicative of the Semiforme–Fallauxi standard zones. The Aulacosphinctes proximus Zone, which is correlated with the Ponti Standard Zone, appears to be closely related to the overlying Wind hauseniceras internispinosum Zone, although its biostratigraphic status needs to be reconsidered. On the basis of ammonites, radiolarians and calpionellids the Windhauseniceras internispinosum Assemblage Zone is approximately equivalent to the Suarites bituberculatum Zone of Mexico, the Paralytohoplites caribbeanus Zone of Cuba and the Simplisphinctes/Microcanthum Zone of the Standard Zonation. The C. alternans Zone could be correlated with the uppermost Microcanthum and “Durangites” zones, although in west central Argentina it could be mostly restricted to levels equivalent to the “Durangites Zone”. The Substeueroceras koeneni Zone ranges into the Occitanica Zone, Subalpina and Privasensis subzones, the A.

It is now implementing a ten-year reconstruction plan in three phases. The first phase (three years) is restoration to the pre-earthquake status quo. In the second phase (four years), the Prefecture plans to revitalize (upgrade) its infrastructure to where it would have been if the earthquake had never occurred. In the third phase (three years), the Prefecture aims to better fortify itself against future natural disasters. With no model to follow for any of the three phases, Miyagi Prefecture is grappling with difficult challenges on a daily basis. NRI's Fumihiko Kamio spoke to Shinya Endo, head of Miyagi Prefecture's reconstruction program, about the challenges that lie ahead in 2014, the first year of the ten-year plan's revitalization phase. Shinya Endo General Manager, Miyagi Prefecture Civil Engineering Department Hired by Miyagi Prefecture in 1979. Has worked at prefecture's Ishinomaki Civil Engineering Office, Urban Planning Section, Sendai-Higashi Civil Engineering, Kessennuma Civil Engineering, Road Construction Section, Civil Engineering General Affairs Section, Tokyo Office, and Planning Department's Policy Section. Promoted to Deputy General Manager of Civil Engineering Department in April 2011 after managing Urban Planning Section and Roads Section. Assumed current post in April 2013.

A mixed assemblage of deep-sea and shelf trace fossils from the Lower Cretaceous (Valanginian) Kamchia Formation in the Troyan region, central Fore-Balkan, Bulgaria. Annales Societatis Geologorum Poloniae, 73: 27-34. Abstract: Trace fossils collected from the best outcrop of the Kamchia Formation have been analysed. There are thirteen ichnotaxa (Curvolithus simplex, Gyrochorte isp., IHelminthoidichnites tenuis, Multina minima [second occurrence], Palaeophycus tubularis, ?Palaeophycus isp., Phycodes bilix, Phycosiphon incertum, Planolites cf. reinecki, Spongeliomorpha Ichevronensis, Squamodictyon tectiforme, Thalassinoides suevicus, Zoophycos isp.) representing different ethologic, toponomic and preservational types, and produced at different depths in the sediment. The ichnoassemblage contains a mixture of forms typical of flysch (Squamodictyon) and shelf deposits (Cun'olithus, Gyrochorte). Probably, sediments of the Kamchia Formation were deposited in an offshore or deeper basin with storm deposition of sand beds and background marly sedimentation. It is possible that storm currents transported trace makers of the shelf trace fossils to the deeper sea. It is not excluded that the trace maker of Gyrochorte migrated to the deep-sea after the Jurassic.
