Adams, D.V.M., for thirty-six years of service to the University and its School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology, Section on Comparative Medicine; for meritorious research and scholarship in atherosclerosis and atherogenesis, shared in 123 published journal articles and 35 book chapters; for dedication as Director of the Post-D.V.M. Training Program; for diligence in establishing and maintaining our collaborative relationship with the Primate Center in Indonesia; for his instrumental role in developing the Wake Forest University Primate Center and his service as its Associate Director; and for his sterling example as a preclinical scientist whose research inuences the practice of medicine. Wake Forest University honors Lewis H. Nelson III, M.D., for thirty-three years of service to the University and its School of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including twenty-four years as associate dean for medical student admissions; for national and international recognition in the eld of fetal ultrasonography and for innovations that have enhanced the care of mothers and infants; for election as president of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine; and for elevating the reputation of our medical school not only as a gied physician, but also through his unyielding commitment to excellence in the process of recruiting outstanding future physicians to our institution. Wake Forest University honors James F. Toole, M.D., for forty-seven years of service to the University and its School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology, including twenty-one years as department chair; for worldwide prestige as an authority on cerebrovascular disease, lead investigator on landmark studies in stroke research, and author of the seminal textbook Cerebrovascular Disorders; for novel studies on presidential disability that continue to inuence public policy today; for service to the neurology community in numerous leadership positions, including president of the American Neurological Association; and for his role in positioning the School of Medicine at its current level of prominence in clinical care and research. Wake Forest University honors Lawrence X. Webb, M.D., for twenty-ve years of service to the University and its School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Surgical Sciences; for international recognition as an expert in orthopaedic trauma; for receiving the highest honor for research in his eld, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation’s Kappa Delta Award; for showcasing the department as one of the most successful participants in multicenter trials addressing trauma-related orthopedic injuries; for signicant research on topically applied negative pressure and mechanisms of osteomyelitis; and for his commitment to resident education and the establishment of the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at the medical school. 4 T HE HONORING OF RETIRING FACUL T Y REYNOLDA CAMPUS Wake Forest University honors J. Gaylord May, Ph.D., for forty-eight years of dedicated teaching, service, and research at Wake Forest University; for kindness, supportive relationships, and congenial associations with colleagues both in the Department of Mathematics and in the greater University; for leadership as a founder of the major in Mathematical Business and for serving as its adviser within the Department of Mathematics; for continual and nationally recognized research in the areas of operations research and management science; and for advising strong theses in mathematics within the graduate program of the Department of Mathematics. Wake Forest University honors Patricia J. Roberts, J.D., for her thirty years of dedicated service to the University and the School of Law; for her extraordinary commitment to teaching and fostering the highest achievement of her students; for her widely respected expertise in the areas of Property, Decedents’ Estates and Trusts, and Donative
