Villaqe Administrator and Police Chief Host School Administrators

On Wednesday, October 14, Police Chief John Madden and I hosted our annual meeting with area school administrators. All the elementary and secondary schools that serve Burr Ridge were represented. We provided them an update on what was happening in our community and discussed the impact of the State budget crisis on both the Village and the school districts.

Article Reqardinq Drones

Attached please find a short article regarding the use of drones that I drafted to be posted to the Village's website. Village Attorney Scott Uhler, Police Chief John Madden and Communications and Public Relations Coordinator Janet Kowal have reviewed and revised the article. I would ask that you also review it and contact me with any comments as soon as possible. I plan to post this to the website by the end of next week.

Thank You Letter from State Representative Patti Bellock

Attached please find a letter from State Representative Patti Bellock that was sent to Mayor Straub thanking him for the Resolution of Appreciation that we presented to her and complimenting the Village on the bridge re-dedication ceremony.

Public Works Emplovee Resiqns

General Utility Worker ll Bill Kulis abruptly resigned this week without notice. Since this position is paid out of the General Fund, my first inclination was to place a hold on the re- hiring of this position, due to the State Budget crisis. However, due to the upcoming snow season, I am concerned about having adequate snow plow drivers. Although this full- time position is definitely needed, I will be requesting at the next meeting that the Village Board allow the Public Works Director to hire two part-time employees during this interim period. By doing so, the Village will save on both health insurance and pension costs.

September Buildinq Report

Attached please find the Building Report for the month of September, prepared by Building & Zoning Assistant Julie Tejkowski. The report shows the following building permits issued during the month:

. 2 New Single Family Residential in the amount of $1,825,050 o 4 Residential Additions/Alterations in the amount of $411 ,825 . 0 New Non-Residential o 1 Non-Residential Additions/Alterations in the amount of $365,301

l\,liscellaneous Memo 10t16t2015 Page 2 of 3 A year-to-date grand total of 84 permits were issued for a year-to-date construction value of $29,960,647.

OF FUN t{ ocr 24)2-4 PM { BRING THE FAMILY FOR AN AFTERNOON OF AUTUMN FUNI DRAFT A Word about Drones

The use of unmanned aerial systems (a.k.a. drones) for both commercial and recreational uses has become popular throughout the United States. The Internet is full of stories about both lawful and unlawful uses of this new technology. With this in mind, both the Federal government and the State of are looking at ways to regulate the use ofthese devices to balance the righB ofusers and the private property rights ofresidents. The Village ofBurr Ridge will monitor Federal and State regulatory activities in this area closely. As a rapidly emerging technology and use, existing rules do not always clearly fit or address the possible needs for regulation of the impacts of such aerial devices. The Village continues to review the beneficial uses of these devices, as well as the related privary and safety concems c-reated by their operation and will be considering such reasonable regulation of these devices as is within its municipal authority. In the meantime, the Village encourages users of these devices to be sensitive to the privacy concerns of your neighbors. Parents are asked to address proper usage of these devices with their children. Residents who feel that their property rights are being compromised by an unmanned aerial system flying around or above their property should contact the Burr Ridge Police Department immediately via9-7-1.

Your help and cooperation in respecting the privacy rights ofyour fellow residents will be greatly appreciated.
