New York City Ballet is one of the foremost dance companies in the world, with a roster of spectacular dancers and an unparalleled repertory. The Compa- ny was founded in 1948 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, and it quickly became world-re- nowned for its athletic and contemporary style. Jerome Robbins joined NYCB the following year and, with Balanchine, helped to build the astounding repertory and firmly establish the Company in New York.

Following Balanchine’s death, in 1983, Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins were named Co-Ballet Masters in Chief, and since 1990 Mr. Martins has assumed sole responsibility for the Company’s artistic direction. Like Balanchine, Mr. Martins believes that choreographic exploration is what sustains the Company and the art form itself, and NYCB continues to present new work as an ongoing part of its performance seasons. Widely acknowledged for its enduring contri- butions to dance, NYCB is committed to promoting creative excellence and nurturing a new generation of dancers and choreographers.

The Wythe Hotel is housed in a historic, refur- bished factory on the Brooklyn waterfront. Locat- ed in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brook- lyn, this turn-of-the-century industrial cooperage has been converted into a destination hotel. The architect surgically altered the original structure, peeling back layers to reveal its history and expose the industrial loft character throughout the hotel spaces. The original solid wooden beams, col- umns, and wood ceilings have been exposed, and a rusty old conveyor track left in place as art in situ. These historic elements stand juxtaposed with new interventions, such as radiant-heated concrete floors and a factory-sash window wall facing Manhattan views, to further enhance the industrial aesthetic while maintaining a sleek, minimal effect. An addition atop the original building, a three-story glass “Tetris block” with wrap-around views, is abstract and airy in counterpoint to the mass and solidity of the older brick base. The 72-key hotel contains a 60-seat restaurant, a 3,000 square foot event space with outdoor garden, a rooftop bar and terrace, a 40-seat screening room, and a brick-arched private banquet room.

About FAIR In October 2014, Interior Designer Brad Ford organized a modern makers craft fair in upstate New York called Field + Supply www.fieldandsupply.com. The focus was on modern, elevated craftsmanship showcasing artisans from the Hudson Valley area as well as makers who work in New York City and Brook- lyn. FAIR is an extension of that concept and is now a permanent showroom at the New York Design Center. It is more edited and elevated than the original event upstate, but the focus remains on high-end, handcrafted design and craft. Many of the same designers who showed their work at Field + Supply are repre- sented at FAIR and several of them are craftspeople that Ford has worked with over the years on his own high-end design projects.

“I have established relationships with a lot of these artists and know how beau- tifully executed their workmanship is,” he said. “They have the right balance of artistry and thoughtfulness so there’s a timelessness to their work which I think has a lot of value. For me, their work should be considered future heirlooms that will last for generations.”

4:30 - 5:30 pm Aysha Collection, Fashion Designer Studio Tour (Note this will include a shopping opportunity) 109 W. 38th Street btw Broadway and Sixth Ave, Suite 301 ayshacollection.com @ayshadaily

Aysha Saeed spent her formative years in a conser- vative Pakistani culture. A culture that while owning a rich tapestry of history, often doesn’t encourage overt feminine independence.

Aysha’s family moved to the New York City area when Aysha was a teenager. High school in the United States fostered Aysha’s love of fashion. Her sartorial elegance was reflected in her love of color and beautiful fabrics. This, along with her exotic looks set her apart.

She dreamed of a career in fashion, but instead opted for the security of a world in finance. Early success on Wall Street didn’t dampen her dream. Instead, she used the business acumen she learned in finance to her next goal: to become a fashion designer.

Aysha bravely moved to Milan to open a fashion consul- tancy directed towards finest European design houses. There, she offered her design services, sourced produc- tion from Asia, and carefully studied how the industry worked. The next five years afforded her the opportunity to work with many of the most prestigious design houses of Paris and Milan, including Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, and La Perla.

Dior’s John Galliano, widely recognized as one of the greatest fashion designers in the world, taught Aysha what it took to make a woman feel feminine. At Dior, Aysha learned the con- cept of a liquid dress—a sensuously soft bias cut dress that takes the form of the wearer as she slips it on.

WithIt Women’s Leadership Development Network www.withit.org 2016 New York Design Tour

Aysha also collaborated with Dolce & Gabbana design team on the brand’s iconic bustier dress that taught Aysha how to make women feel sexy. Both de- sign houses inspired what would become her brand’s philosophy: how to make women feel strong, cool, and sexy with clothing that is fashionable yet function- able and affordable.

Now that her master class was complete, Aysha knew the time had come to launch her own brand. She returned to the city that had given her room to explore her freedom and creativity while still respecting her heritage.

AYSHA was launched in New York in 2010. The Collection is infused with Aysha’s passion, experience and sophisticated personal aesthetic.
