2017 Camp Cards Spring Fundraiser

The Order Form for the 2017 Camp Cards Sale is active. Please find it at phc.kintera.org/2017campcardorderform. Camp Cards are sold for $5 each and your Scout Unit gets 50% commission. They are good for all of 2017 and are powered by the Entertainment Company. Orders will be filled starting in early March.

Training

Cub Scout BB & Archery Range Master Training

Saturday, May 20th, 2017 from 9:00am-2:00pm held at Camp Akela. Registration is $10 up to five business days before the certification event and $15 within five days of the event.

This certification is to support the Pacific Harbors Council Shooting Sports Programs. Your registration information is made available to Cub Scout Program Directors for Cub Scout Day Camps, Cub Scout Resident Camps, and Family Camping Events throughout the year.

Please bring your own lunch and wear comfortable clothing appropriate for use on the range.

Wood Badge 2017

April 20-22, 2017 and May 18-20, 2017 at Camp Thunderbird.

Cost: $285, a $50 deposit must accompany your registration and fees must be paid by March 20, 2017.

The course is a fun-filled, rapid-paced, hands-on, lecture- practice environment. Practical exercises, in both indoor and outdoor settings, are a core component. During the two weekends of the course, you are placed in a patrol of diverse leaders. This provides you with an instant support group and the opportunity to practice team leadership skills as you learn them. Not only do you learn from staff members, you also learn from each other.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics, this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops and Varsity Scout Teams, in order to be considered "trained".

Friday, April 28th, 2017 starting at 6:00pm and concluding 6:00pm on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at Camp Thunderbird.

The course fee is $35.00. Any registration after April 18th, 2017 is $50.00.

Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training

The course will provide Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Boy Scout troops. Along with Introduction to Outdoor Skills, this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout troops in order to be considered "Trained".

May 20th, 2017 from 9:00am-1:00pm at the Tumwater Service and Training Center.

The course fee is $10.00. Any registration fee after May 15th, 2017 is $15.00.

Online registration prior to May 20th is mandatory. If you do not pre-register, you will not be able to attend the course.

BALOO Training

Saturday, May 20th from 8:30am-5:00pm at Camp Akela. Cost is $20 per person.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a one-day course designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities.

Completion of this course is mandatory for at least one adult on a Pack overnighter. This course is highly recommended for all pack leadership, members of the district, and council training teams. All adult leaders within BSA are encouraged to attend this course.

OWL Training

Saturday, May 20th from 8:30am-9:00pm at Camp Akela. Cost is $25 per person.

Outdoor Webelos Leader Training (OWL) is designed to help Webelos and Arrow of Light Den Leaders enhance the outdoor program for the Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts in their den by teaching some basic outdoor skills as well as skills needed to complete many of the Adventure Pins.

Completion of this course is highly recommended for Webelos and Arrow of Light Den Leaders before taking their dens on an overnighter. This course is recommended for ALL pack leadership, members of the district, and council training teams. All adult leaders within the BSA are encouraged to attend this course.

Leave No Trace Trainer Course

May 24th, 2017 from 6:00-10:00pm at the Tacoma Office May 26th-27th from 6:00pm on Friday-9:00pm on Saturday at Camp Thunderbird

This overnight course trains interested individuals ages 14 and older to serve as Leave No Trace Trainers and Outdoor Ethics Guides (Youth). The length of the course is 16 hours.

The course fee is $80 and registration cannot be accepted after May 13th.

Cub Scouts

Spring Cub Scout Fun Day

Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club located at 8503 Chambers Creek Road West in University Place.

Cost is $5 per Scout until April 28th, then the cost goes up to $10 per Scout.

9:30am - 10:00am: Arrival/Pick your Session 10:00am - 4:00pm: Sessions

Make sure to bring a lunch and an empty 2-Liter bottle!

Planned events include: Archery, BB Guns, Arts/Crafts, Stomp Rockets, Sling Shots, Ultimate Frisbee, First Responder/First Aid, Knots, Compass, and Leave No Trace.

Family Camps at Camp Thunderbird are a great opportunity for families to come together and experience Scouting! All Family Camps utilize the heated bunkhouses and have activities like shooting sports, Scout skills, crafts, and the climbing wall.

Pacific Harbors Council offers Day Camps for all Cub Scouts from Tiger to Arrow of Light Scout. The camps are fun-filled learning. The theme is “Bug Hunters” this year! Scouts will arrive each day with a lunch and a day pack of essential items, and they will participate in a variety of games and activities aimed at having fun as well as exploring the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law.

Cub Scout Day Camp cannot happen with many adult and Boy Scout aged volunteers. Please considering volunteering for a week or even a day!

Boy Scouts

Trailblazers Camp

Dates: July 9th-11th, 2017

Fees:

Scouts who have found that their units are not signed up for camp, unable to attend with their Troop, or Scouts who are not ready for a week-long camp are eligible to attend Camp Thunderbird as a provisional camper. The Scouts are grouped into patrols with other Scouts and will have the opportunity to experience all of the activities that Camp Thunderbird has to offer. Activities will include Trail to First Class requirements and the opportunity to work on a merit badge. Leadership and supervision is provided by the camp staff. Scouts can sign up as individuals or with a buddy or two.

This camp is open to any first year Boy Scouts up to age 13.

LDS 11-Year-Old Camp

Dates: July 14-15, 2017 or July 21-22, 2017

Two full days and one night of learning, adventure, and fun! These camps are geared towards those in your Ward's LDS 11-Year-Old Patrol. Activities will include Trail to First Class requirements like aquatics, knots, nature, citizenship, and climbing. Registration includes meals, snacks, program supplies, and a patch for each Scout. All 11-Year-Old Patrols in your Stake are encouraged to combine to form a troop to attend camp and make it easier to find the required adult two-deep leadership.

All boys who are or will be members of your Ward's LDS 11-Year-Old Patrol in July 2017 are eligible to attend.

6th Annual Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet 2017

Honoring the Pacific Harbors Council Eagle Scouts and Quartermasters Class of 2016-2017.

Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Anderson University Center at Pacific Lutheran University.

Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) - Eagle Scout $20K Scholarship Essay Contest

Registered Eagle Scouts under age 19 can apply for over $20,000 in SAR scholarships. Application includes Scout achievements, a 4-generation ancestor chart, and a 500-word patriotic essay. All participants will receive a patch. Chapter winners receive a certificate, SAR Medal, and a cash award. Our Washington State winner receives $500, an Eagle Trophy, SAR Medal, and his essay goes to the National SAR Competition. National winners receive a cash scholarship.

Apply to local SAR Chapter or at State level. Deadline is December 31st, 2017. For details go to www.WassarToday.org.

Alaska Airlines 9th Annual Aviation Day

Saturday, May 6th from 8:00am-5:00pm. Together with the Port of Seattle and Boeing, Alaska Airlines is proud to again host the 9th annual Aviation Day . This free event is aimed at inspiring aviation dreams in the youth ages 13- 18 of Puget Sound communities.

Activities include: Touring aircraft with pilots, flight attendants, and mechanics, flying a plane in a 737 simulator, attending Aviation Career discussions, jumping down an evacuation slide, building and testing gliders, and much, much more!

The event is free, however, pre-registration is required.

Order of the Arrow Ordeal

Congratulations to those who have been elected into the is year! To receive membership rights, you must now undergo the Ordeal. Please choose from one of the two Ordeals for 2017 listed below. The cost of the Ordeal is $60 and includes: Saturday and Sunday food, your OA sash, lodge flap, OA handbook, and dues.

Spring Ordeal: June 2nd-4th, 2017 at Camp Thunderbird, registration deadline is Monday, May 15th. Summer Ordeal: August 18-20th, 2017 at Camp Thunderbird, registration deadline is Monday, July 31st.

Evergreen Boys State

June 18-24, 2017 at the Warm Beach Conference Center near Stanwood, WA. Evergreen Boys State is an American Legion program open to young men who will be high school seniors in Fall 2017. This program aims to develop civic leadership and pride in young American citizenship, to arouse a keen interest in the detailed study of our government, to develop an understanding of American traditions and belief in the United States of America, and to arouse in the young citizens a determination to maintain our form of government. Boy Scouts have preferred application status.
