Page 36 3 MESSIAH 2 - VENGEANCE IS MINE MESSIAH 2 - VENGEANCE IS MINE is the gripping and challenging follow-up to the hugely successful psychological thriller MESSIAH, again co-starring Neil Dudgeon, Frances Grey, Michelle Forbes, Art Malik and Gillian Taylforth. Ken Stott returns as DCI Red Metcalfe, a man totally dedicated to putting killers behind bars. But, when his own estranged brother is found knifed in the hustle and bustle of Leadenhall Market, the hunt for justice gets personal. There are fifteen horrific deaths in MESSIAH 2 - VENGEANCE IS MINE – but of those it is the four murders in the past that set off a chain of terrifying killings that pose a seemingly impenetrable problem for Red Metcalfe and his team. Four convicted men are safely behind bars for those murders. Yet someone, somewhere believes they are innocent. Which can only mean that the real murderers are still out there and justice - brutal, bloody and painstakingly planned – is being meted out by a sadistic serial killer. Could the police have made mistakes that resulted in the wrong men being imprisoned? Or has there been a cover-up to hide the shocking truth – that evidence has been withheld, or tampered with to obtain unsafe convictions? The horrifying truth dawns as the body count rises. The killer is out for revenge – and none of the investigating teams, or their nearest and dearest, is safe… Part One Eric Metcalfe – knifed in the chest in crowded Leadenhall Market. Russ Collier – bound, gagged and buried alive. His hand is wrapped in cheesewire. Jenny Collier – drugged and trussed up in a laundry bag. A ball of cheese wire in her hand. Philip Stansfield – Suspended over a railway line and electrocuted. A cut-throat razor in his hand. Mandy MacIntyre – Tied to a swing and garrotted with cheese wire. … a terrifying pattern begins to emerge. Red realises that his team is in danger as the killer continues to exact a grisly and horrific penalty for the injustices of the past. Part Two The killer has struck right at the heart of the police investigation. Duncan (Neil Dudgeon) is terrified for the safety of his young son, while even Red’s boss DCS Emerson (Art Malik) has to face the possibility that the past could prove fatal to his family. Always one step ahead, the killer continues on a bloody trail of retribution. Who will be next ?… 4 MESSIAH 2 – VENGEANCE IS MINE Filmed on location in London and the south-east, MESSIAH 2 – VENGEANCE IS MINE once more co-stars American actress Michelle Forbes as Red’s profoundly deaf wife Susan, with Frances Grey as newly-confident Kate Beauchamp and Gillian Taylforth as DI Warren’s estranged wife Helen. Guest stars include Alun Armstrong as DCI Charlie MacIntyre, Angela Bruce as forensic pathologist Dr Dugdale, Shaun Dingwall as defence lawyer Daniel Jameson, Vincent Regan as DI David Wilby and Keira Malik – daughter of Art – playing Isabel Emerson. MESSIAH 2– VENGEANCE IS MINE is written by Lizzie Mickery from a story by Lizzie Mickery and Robert Cooper and the characters originally created in Boris Starling’s best- selling novel MESSIAH. “We didn’t have a novel to work from this time,” she explains. “So we had to create the entire story, which is quite a complex thing to do. But we had such wonderful lead actors who contributed a lot in the making of these characters. “Knowing that we’ve got Ken Stott, Neil Dudgeon, Frances Grey and Art Malik, you can create a character round them, building on what they did the last time round.” Executive producer Robert Cooper says: “We wanted to exercise people’s brains as well as scaring them half to death!” “We wanted to give the audience something very different from MESSIAH 1, but which retained its epic terror. So we’ve created a story with more complexity, without sacrificing the MESSIAH sense of scale … We wanted it to be informed by a larger idea.” Chris Ottinger, Senior Vice President, Paramount International Television adds: “MESSIAH 2 is the continuation of a great working relationship between BBC Northern Ireland and Paramount. The success of the partnership has delivered an exciting new product for international and US audiences, and has inspired plans for future co-projects.” MESSIAH 2 – VENGEANCE IS MINE is directed by David Richards and the executive producers are Robert Cooper and Kate Triggs. It is a BBC Northern Ireland and Paramount International Television Production in association with Vengeance Films. 5 MESSIAH 2 – VENGEANCE IS MINE Characters DCI Red Metcalfe – Ken Stott Red is devastated when his estranged brother Eric is murdered, with Red’s deaf wife Susan the only witness. But his grief and guilt cannot be allowed to get in the way of tracking down a killer bent on righting wrongs – especially when the police themselves could be the targets. DS Kate Beauchamp – Frances Grey No longer the new girl on the block, Kate has grown in confidence and ability. She can more than hold her own with Duncan – even though he still drives her mad. DI Duncan Warren – Neil Dudgeon Duncan may still be Neanderthal Man, but the prospect of romance makes him smarten up his act. But the most important thing in his life is still his son, Sam. DCI Charlie MacIntyre – Alun Armstrong A copper of the old school, MacIntyre is an old colleague of Red’s and their families are friends. He would do anything to protect them, especially his daughter, Mandy. DCS Emerson – Art Malik Emerson is Red’s boss and is concerned that his ‘golden boy’ is not taking time out to grieve properly for his murdered brother. But he will have cause to be grateful for Red’s unstinting dedication to the job. DI David Wilby – Vincent Regan Openly gay officer Wilby is a high flier; but it wasn’t always so. The cultured copper still stirs up resentment among some of his colleagues and his past could catch up with him in more ways than one. Susan Metcalfe – Michelle Forbes Susan is the only witness to the seemingly senseless murder of Red’s brother Eric. But will she be able to pinpoint the killer? Helen Warren – Gillian Taylforth Even though she has re-married, Helen knows that ex-husband Duncan can still press her buttons – especially where their son Sam is concerned. Daniel Jameson – Shaun Dingwall A thorn in Red’s side, Jameson is a defence lawyer determined to prove the innocence of his clients, even though they are all convicted murderers. Always one step ahead of the investigation, could his thirst for justice have gone too far? Anna Marchant – Emily Joyce A ‘paper gatherer’ in the police General registry Office, Anna’s first meeting with Duncan is a prickly one. But the unlikely pair are drawn to each other. 6 MESSIAH 2 – VENGEANCE IS MINE CAST LIST Red Metcalfe ............................................................................ Great Literature Collection Aldrich Ames: Traitor Within CIA operative Aldrich Ames has, like his father, always been a company man. Although not always competent, he is chief of the Counter Intelligence Soviet Branch and has few friends within the Agency. On the verge of financial ruin due to, among other things, his wife Rosario's heavy spending, the hard-drinking and desperate Ames decides to sell secrets to the Russians. His first "job" has fatal consequences for ten Russians who worked for the CIA. Ames' boss, the Chief of Operations, who is friendly toward Ames, discovers that someone within the CIA is divulging high-level information. He appoints Jeanne Vertefeuille to head up the investigation. Jeanne recruits her own older staff, derisively dubbed the "over the hill gang". Poring through an abundance of records, case files and information proves to be an awesome task and their search goes on for eight years. After a year-long stint in Rome and now with Bush in the White House, Ames continues turning over information to the Russians for millions of dollars, re-routing deposits to Swiss banks and his wife's family in Colombia. Still an alcoholic, he buys a Jaguar and moves his family to an expensive home in a plush suburb. Ames soon realizes, however, that the investigation is closing in and gets very nervous when a Russian politico who could disclose Ames' duplicity defects to America. Ames gets lucky, his treason is not yet uncovered. Ames' own actions, however, begin to draw suspicion towards him, especially when he tries to conduct his own investigation to uncover the spy within the CIA.

  • Shakespeare on Film, Video & Stage
William Shakespeare on Film, Video and Stage Titles in bold red font with an asterisk (*) represent the crème de la crème – first choice titles in each category. These are the titles you’ll probably want to explore first. Titles in bold black font are the second- tier – outstanding films that are the next level of artistry and craftsmanship. Once you have experienced the top tier, these are where you should go next. They may not represent the highest achievement in each genre, but they are definitely a cut above the rest. Finally, the titles which are in a regular black font constitute the rest of the films within the genre. I would be the first to admit that some of these may actually be worthy of being “ranked” more highly, but it is a ridiculously subjective matter. INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced info the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on untii complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.
