Faith Family and Ducks Press Release For Immediate Release! Contact: Sheila Kenny (859) 233-4567 ext.3285 [email protected] The Frankfort Christian Academy presents: Faith, Family and Ducks A Conversation with The Robertsons of A&E’s Duck Dynasty Tickets to the September 29 Event Go On Sale Friday, August 9 LEXINGTON, KY (August 5, 2013) – The Frankfort Christian Academy is pleased to present six members of the Robertsons’ Family from the top rated show A&E’s Duck Dynasty on Sunday, September 29 at 3pm in Rupp Arena. Join Willie, Korie, Miss Kay, Sadie, John Luke and new to season 4, brother Alan Robertson. It will be an inspirational afternoon with stories of faith, family and fellowship. Enjoy this once in a lifetime chance to see the Robertsons in Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. Since the Duck Dynasty’s premiere, the Robertsons have been busy being America's favorite big, bearded, camo-clad family. Despite their modest lifestyle and homes in the backwoods, this close-knit family has made a fortune on duck calls by turning a backyard business into a multi- million dollar sporting empire. Willie is the CEO and resident prankster of Duck Commander. As the only one with the business degree, he took the company from a living room operation down by the river to a premiere destination for all things outdoors. They may be living the rags- to-riches American dream, but they're just as busy staying true to their rugged outdoorsman lifestyle and southern roots. Tickets to the event go on sale Friday, August 9 at 10am at the Lexington Center Ticket Office, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and Ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices range from $42 - $225. For additional information go to www.rupparena.com (More) Willie Robertson Willie is the CEO and resident prankster of Duck Commander. As the only one with the business degree, he took the company from a living room operation down by the river to a premiere destination for all things outdoors. He says he honed his skills as a salesman by selling his freshly caught fish at the market with his mom as a young boy. Even then he was always working to negotiate the best price. While he says “being a redneck millionaire has its perks,” including buying new trucks, gadgets and swanky suits, working with kin can be a headache. Korie Robertson Though not originally from a hunting family, Korie fit in with the Robertsons right away. As Willie’s wife and business partner, she helped him grow the company into an ever-expanding enterprise. She serves as the Duck Commander office manager and has to make her presence known in order to keep the workshop from turning into a funhouse. She met Willie in third grade when he asked her to go on a moonlit hike at summer camp. They got married a year after high school and now have five children: John Luke, Sadie, Lil' Will, Bella, and a foster daughter named Rebecca. Kay Robertson Kay is the revered matriarch of the family. What she says goes. She was 16 when she married Phil and since then she’s been keeping him and the boys from spending too much time in the woods, bringing them back to civilization each night with a home cooked meal. Kay believes her cooking talents are a gift which she must share, so she often ends up feeding all of the family and most of the neighborhood. Her most famous dishes are banana pudding, fried deer steak, crawfish pie, and sticky frog legs. Kay’s favorite family member is Jesse, the family dog. But here’s the secret, every time he dies, Kay quickly gets a new puppy that looks just like the one that passed and even gives it the same name. As Kay puts it, “this way, you never have to grieve.” ### .

  • The Hunger Games: an Indictment of Reality Television
The Hunger Games: An Indictment of Reality Television An ELA Performance Task The Hunger Games and Reality Television Introductory Classroom Activity (30 minutes) Have students sit in small groups of about 4-5 people. Each group should have someone to record their discussion and someone who will report out orally for the group. Present on a projector the video clip drawing comparisons between The Hunger Games and shows currently on Reality TV: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdmOwt77D2g) After watching the video clip, ask each group recorder to create two columns on a piece of paper. In one column, the group will list recent or current reality television shows that have similarities to the way reality television is portrayed in The Hunger Games. In the second column, list or explain some of those similarities. To clarify this assignment, ask the following two questions: 1. What are the rules that have been set up for The Hunger Games, particularly those that are intended to appeal to the television audience? 2. Are there any shows currently or recently on television that use similar rules or elements to draw a larger audience? Allow about 5 to 10 minutes for students to work in their small groups to complete their lists. Have students report out on their group work, starting with question #1. Repeat the report out process with question #2. Discuss as a large group the following questions: 1. The narrator in the video clip suggests that entertainments like The Hunger Games “desensitize us” to violence. How true do you think this is? 2.

  • I Preached This Sermon in Hunting Gear with a “Deer Call” Around My Neck
Matthew 3:1-3:12 OPEN: (I preached this sermon in hunting gear with a “deer call” around my neck. The opening 6 minutes were from a video of Jase Robertson telling of his first attempt at witnessing – answering a “prank” phone call at midnight and witnessing for 3 hours. You can find it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eREBIFrL0jI [0:16 thru 6:18]) What you've just seen is the testimony of Jase Robertson about how he got into the habit of witnessing to people about Christ. His passion for sharing Christ with others is something the entire Robertson clan is dedicated to. In fact, they’re so driven by this desire to tell others about Christ that Alan Robertson (the beardless son who has been preaching in their home church) said: “We’re kind of the John the Baptists of the 21st century. It’s how you imagine, with the wild hair and the locusts.” Exactly who was this John the Baptist they’re comparing themselves to? Well, John was a special man chosen by God to prepare the way for Jesus’ ministry. According to Matthew 3:4 “John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.” “People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.” Matthew 3:5-6 People left their homes, their villages, their cities – and they flocked to the Jordan River to see this prophet of God as he preached.
