NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal on Monday asked the Centre to clarify what should be the minimum environmental flow (E-flow) in the Ganga, in a bid to ensure uninterrupted water supply in the river. The apex environment watchdog also said that unless the excessive extraction of water and discharge of high pollutants are controlled, it would be difficult to restore Ganga to its original pristine condition. The E-flow defines the quantity, timing and quality of water flow required to sustain freshwater and the estua- rine ecosystems, besides human livelihood.
