    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TEWAARATON AWARD, PRESENTED BY UNDER ARMOUR, ANNOUNCES MEN’S AND WOMEN’S WATCH LISTS NEW YORK, February 26 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2015 Tewaaraton Award men’s and women’s watch lists. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. Among 2015 watch lists returnees are five former finalists. Four of the five 2014 women’s finalists return to the watch list, including Megan Douty (Maryland), Shannon Gilroy (Florida), Kayla Treanor (Syracuse) and 2014 winner Taylor Cummings (Maryland). Last year’s co- winner, Lyle Thompson (Albany), returns on the men’s side. “The national reach of quality players is evident in this list, with players from all regions of the country, along with a strong group of five former winners and finalists,” said Jeff Harvey, chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. “As the season unfolds, we are excited for another deserving group of Tewaaraton Award candidates to emerge and we look forward to welcoming them to Washington, DC in May.” The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Only the fifth head HOFSTRA PRIDE (4-5, 2-2) coach in the program’s history, Tierney came back to Hofstra after a six year stint at Johns Hopkins University, the last two years as at associate head coach. As the Blue Jays offensive coordinator, he was #14 TOWSON TIGERS (7-3, 4-0) the architect of one of the most potent and explosive offenses in the Saturday, April 14, 2007 – 1:00 p.m. nation in recent years. Tierney directed the Blue Jays attack that Unitas Stadium – Towson, MD finished second in the nation in scoring margin, sixth in scoring offense and 16th in man-up offense during Hopkins' NCAA title run in 2005. The Blue Jays led the nation in scoring offense and man-up 2007 HOFSTRA offense in 2003 and finished fifth in both categories in 2004.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TEWAARATON AWARD FINALISTS ANNOUNCED WASHINGTON, May 7, 2015 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the men’s and women’s finalists for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. Five men and five women were selected as finalists and will be invited to Washington, D.C., for the 15th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on May 28, 2015. The five men’s finalists are University of Denver attackman Wesley Berg, Duke University midfielder Myles Jones, University of Notre Dame attackman Matt Kavanagh, Syracuse University attackman Kevin Rice and University at Albany attackman Lyle Thompson The five women’s finalists are University of Maryland midfielder Taylor Cummings, University of Florida midfielder Shannon Gilroy, Boston College midfielder Sarah Mannelly, University of Notre Dame defender Barbara Sullivan and Syracuse University attacker Kayla Treanor. Cummings, the 2014 women’s recipient, and Thompson, the 2014 co-winner along with his brother, Miles, return as finalists for a second consecutive year, as do Gilroy and Treanor. All 10 finalists will compete in this month’s NCAA lacrosse championships, at the conclusion of which the selection committees will vote on and select this year’s winners. “These 10 finalists have been chosen among many worthy candidates by the game’s top coaches on the Tewaaraton selection committees,” said Jeffrey Harvey, chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. “Our board congratulates each of them and their teams for their accomplishments to date. The 10th Spirit of Tewaaraton recipient is Tina Sloan Green, and the 2016 Tewaaraton Legends are former Penn State star Candace Finn Rocha and former Maryland star Frank Urso. “We’re excited that such a great player in Candace Finn Rocha will go down as the first-ever female Tewaaraton Legend,” said Chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation Jeff Harvey. “And also being able to honor one of the best to ever play the game in Frank Urso, as well as a true trailblazer for female athletes in Tina Sloan Green is going to make this a truly special year.” The Spirit of Tewaaraton is presented to an individual who has contributed to the sport of lacrosse in a way that reflects the spirit of the values and mission of the Tewaaraton Award.     2nd Class of the Curley Athletic Hall of Fame Jim Hessenauer ’85 (Cross Country & Track) Called the best cross country runner in Curley’s history by longtime coach, Gene Hoffman, Jim Hessenauer went unbeaten his senior season. He won every dual meet and invitational in which he participated…a total of 15 on the season. What makes this feat even more impressive is that Hessenauer didn’t start running competitively until his junior year. Nicknamed "The Horse" by his teammates, he became the first Curley cross country runner to win the MSA individual title in the fall of 1984. During his senior season he crushed the course record at Herring Run Park by 13 seconds. He also set new course records at McDonogh and Gilman. As a member of one of the finest high school cross country teams assembled in the state, Hessenauer helped the squad win the MSA dual meet title, team crown, and the Catholic Team Championship in 1984. In the spring he continued his dominance in a distance event by winning the 3000 meter MSA Championship. Individual honors included being named the Baltimore Sun’s "Runner of the Year" and "Athlete of the Year" by the Maryland Track Association. Onas "Butch" Jansen ’79 (Wrestling & Football) Onas "Butch " Jansen was the first Curley wrestler to earn All-American honors. He was selected to the Scholastic Wrestling News All-American team in the 145 pound weight division after completing a stellar senior season. He won 19 of 21 matches on the year, was the 1979 MSA champion in his weight class, and was honored as an All- Metro & All-State performer.
