The season is scheduled to begin the first week of May and run through to the 3rd week of June with the finals to be played on June 21st. Players from Grades 9 through 12 are eligible to play in this league and must provide their own protective gear and stick. Current FLA Riptide players in attendance were Zach Alchorn, Cole Fraser, Lynden Breen, Zach Vaughan and Drew Johnston. The FLA has produced numerous players that have gone on to play Lacrosse at Prep schools, in the NCAA and at Canadian Universities. Don’t be left out of the action! FUNDY RIPTIDE TIMES MARCH 1, 2015 P A G E 3 The 2015 FLA Riptide Rep Team Program The FLA will once again be sending Riptide Travel teams to compete in the Nepean Knights Tournament the weekend of July 17-19, 2015 in Nepean, Ont. The FLA has been attending this tournament for years, and our Riptide Teams have had great success playing in the Ottawa area. We hope to continue that tradition in 2015 by sending competitive teams in the Novice, Peewee, Bantam and Midget divisions. Open tryouts will be held for all the teams on Saturday May 2nd. If you have extra gear with life still left in it, and you are willing to donate, let us know by sending an email to: [email protected] Paul Rabil Paul Rabil (born December 14, 1985 in Gaithersburg, Maryland), is a lacrosse player who rose to fame with the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse [MLL]. Rabil played his collegiate lacrosse at the Johns Hopkins University. Taken #1 in the Major League Lacrosse Draft to the Boston Cannons, and #2 in the National Lacrosse League Draft to the San Jose Stealth, Paul began his career as a professional lacrosse player in both leagues. On January 5, 2015, Rabil was traded to the New York Lizards , along with fellow midfielder Mike Stone for veteran Max Seibald and draft picks Since then, Paul’s won an MLL and NLL Championship, awarded 3 Most Valuable Player titles, 3 Offensive Player of the Year Awards, 6x First-Team All Pro’s, been named to a combined 10 All-Star teams, and set the single season record for most points registered in Major League Lacrosse history. “The greatest honor in your sport is to be named a starter on your national team” - Paul Rabil Paul has been a member of Team USA Lacrosse since 2009. In 2010, Paul helped Team USA capture the FIL World Championship Gold Medal. Paul was named the World’s Most Valuable Player and Best Midfielder. In 2014, Team USA was short of Gold, and Paul was once again named to the All-Tournament Team and the World's Best Midfielder. Rabil also won the MLL Fastest Shot competition in 2009 and 2010, with his shot measured at 111 miles per hour (179 km/h). He no longer holds the record for worlds’ fastest shot, as Mike Sawyer, a Charlotte Hounds offensive player, broke the 111 mph record at the 2013 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game by clocking in a 114 mph shot. “I’ve been most fortunate to be on teams of such high caliber. Page 1 of 2 Back to previous page Lacrosse star Paul Rabil, writer Philip Schultz advocate for learning disabled By Valerie Strauss, Published: November 13 The academics at Johns Hopkins University are tough for any student, but for Paul Rabil, they were a special hardship. Rabil, 25, Major League Lacrosse’s 2011 Most Valuable Player, has a condition called auditory processing disorder that can make reading and writing an excruciating trial. Surviving the reading- intensive courses at Hopkins required accommodations available to students with learning disabilities, and time — lots of it — to read and reread material to absorb its meaning. That intensity — Rabil refers to himself as “cutthroat determined” — has informed his approach to lacrosse and is guiding his new effort to help young people with learning differences thrive through athletics, and to raise public awareness about the need for early diagnosis and intervention. “I want kids with learning differences to know that they can do great things,” said Rabil, who lives in Baltimore. “It may sound like a cliche, but I don’t look at my condition as a disability, but as something that made me work hard to get where I wanted to go.” Learning disabilities are caused by differences in brain structure. Estimates vary on the percentage of Americans with a disability; government agencies cite 10 to 15 percent. The most common disability is dyslexia, an inherited disorder in which the brain does not properly recognize and process symbols, making it difficult to read and write.

    2012 Media Guide About Major League Lacrosse BACKGROUND: During the summer of 1998, Jake “Body By Jake” Steinfeld was inspired to start a professional outdoor lacrosse league after reading a magazine article about the growth of the sport of lacrosse. Steinfeld sought out a contributor to the article, Owner and President of Warrior Lacrosse Dave Morrow, a leading lacrosse equipment manufacturer, to discuss formation of such a league. In February 1999 Steinfeld and Morrow joined forces with Steinfeld’s friend and business associate Tim Robertson, Chairman of Bay Shore Enterprises and former CEO of the Family Channel, to form Major League Lacrosse, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. In 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. came on board as a Founding Member of Major League Lacrosse, as well as an Anchor Level League Sponsor. Major League Lacrosse began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class field lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market. The MLL was praised and heralded for its on-field play, regarded as the best ever seen. With a year-on-year attendance increase, Major League Lacrosse has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports. OUR TEAMS: MLL is comprised of eight teams across the US and Canada. The Boston Cannons, Long Island Lizards, and Chesapeake Bayhawks (formerly Baltimore and Washington) have been members of the League since its inception in 2001.
